Women's Rights in Islam..

MuddatherAbozaid April 29th, 2018

Alslamu Alikum "Peace be Upon you.. smiley"

As i recieve many chats from women being victims of domestic violance by non-muslim men, i thought about sharing what Islam consists of when it comes to women's rights.

Women's Rights in Islam

The issue of women in Islam, is topic of great misunderstanding and distortion due partly to a lack of understanding, but also partly due to misbehavior of some Muslims which has been taken to represent the teachings of Islam. We speak here about what Islam teaches, and that is that standard according to which Muslims are to be judged. As such, my basis and source is the Quran--the words of Allah, and the sayings of the Prophet, his deeds and his confirmation. Islamic laws are derived from these sources. To facilitate our discussion we can discuss the position of women from a spiritual, economic, social, and political standpoint.

Thanks for sharing this! This is an interesting topic. Unfortunately, I only know the very basics regarding the religion (as well as most religions in general), but I've definitely heard mixed opinions regarding this topic. For the supportive side, I've heard that Islamic countries were the first countries to grant equal rights between men and women; on the antagonistic side, I've heard complaints regarding a link between sexism and the hijaab. Based upon my knowledge (which is very little), I'd have to side with the supportive side, knowing that wearing the hijaab is (usually) a choice, at least in progressive countries. How do you feel regarding this issue?

@Emily619

Alslamu Alikum Emily,Thank you for ur Question.. smiley

1st its okay if u knew a little about islam, little is better than nothing at all.. so no worries.. smiley

Plus, all of us including myself r still learning and we vary in how much knowledge we have u know no matter how much we got to know, this is why Allah says in chapter 16 : [(43) And We sent not before you except men to whom We revealed [Our message]. So ask the people of the message if you do not know.], and that doesnt just apply on non-Muslims but also on every Muslim as well, when they dont know they should search and look for answers not to settle with the amount of knowledge they have already.

2nd, as for the Hijab.. I think I need more clarification on these complaints which connects it with sexism, because as every Muslim believe that Allah is just u know.. Allah says in chapter 4 Surah An-Nisa Which means (chapter the Women) by the way.. smiley [(40) Indeed, Allah does not do injustice, [even] as much as an atom's weight; while if there is a good deed, He multiplies it and gives from Himself a great reward.].

And as we Also know that Hijab is obligatory on Muslim women since Allah revealed upon prophet Muhammad peace and blessings upon him verse (59) in chapter (33) saying [O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.], and its also confirmed as Allah says in chapter 24: [(31) And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests….]

So we know that Allah didnt made Hijab obligatory as doing injustice to Muslim women even if we didnt understand why it is obligatory for our limited vision or knowledge, and all that lack of knowledge actually ends immediately when u read in the rest of the verse as Allah explains one of the benefits of wear Hijab saying they will be known and not be abused and that Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

So, this shows that wearing Hijab is not a choice for Muslim women, its obligatory as its an order from Allah to them to do.. And this is why Muslim woman who isnt wearing Hijab committing a big sin because she disobeyed Allahs order.. and also she gains a bad deed with every look on her body from a man that is not her husband or her Mahram means her ancestors which are mentioned in detail in chapter (24) verse (31), and it doesnt make a difference for a Muslim woman to be in a progressive countries or any other country as Islam is her religion and identity and its an order from Allah who is the Hearing, the Knowing, the Encompassing of all we do, and that Hijab is about her being a Muslim not the country she is in.

And as this social experiment shows, even non-Muslim women when they try wearing Niqab Covering their faces as well not just their body and hear they felt its more freeing for them not the other way around as they said: https://youtu.be/ygqF58_-DjI

I Also recommend that u listen to Dr.Zakirs 7 mins talk about The System of Hijaab in Islam: https://youtu.be/mh8asJFkVVI

And women's rights in islam - liberated or subjugated? lecture + q & a | dr zakir naik: https://youtu.be/yOm7qJ6mFeY which i provided a link for in the original post too.

Hopefully that clears the concept of Hijab in Islam and how the belief system of every Muslim should be like, and you are more than welcome to ask any follow up questions regarding Hijab or Islam in general by the will of Allah.. smiley

That, and Allah knows best.

perhaps i was hasty in my reply... if there were a way for Muslim women to come forward and find justice, peace or help from an abusive situation i welcome that. and since your laws and your ways are so prohibitive in nature.. perhaps this is the only way for now... an "in route"

wish it didnt have to be but is better than nothing i suppose.

i wish a woman Muslim could speak for herself and for women on such matters. i do hope that one comes along.
