I can't stop cleaning.

I don't feel happy if I don't springclean one room per day (house with 10 rooms). I feel like I need to wash the ceiling and scrub the conners of each room because then it looks healthy and happy. But I love to paint, I want time to paint but I don't want to sit and paint in a imperfect home. Every day I think that I can get time to paint after cleaning today, but I don't stop cleaning, I go a little and I can't stop, and then I get to the end of the day and still feel like I've achieved nothing because I can't use my talent. How do I get myself somewhere where I can clean but be healthy about it?

@MarietjieVanderWesthuizen I try to divide my day into chores like cleaning or painting and another part for creative activities or volunteering.

Oh, I totally understand. For me, cleaning is the best way to reduce stress and calm down and to be honest, I think it's great that I don't have to spend a fortune on cleaning services like other people do.

@piligrimmscott

Agreed with that, to do own things is rewarding and you feel free to do them the way you want things to be done 👍

Your not alone. I have gotten better at feeling ok with giving myself a break from cleaning every week. Saturday and Sunday I don’t clean, only clean after myself. Now I’m working on adding Friday. Three days off. Little steps😄

I understand this all too well!! Sometimes I wipe the same spot over and over. Yes it helps to get my mind off things to clean, but other things need to be done as well. I don't know how to stop either. I enjoy it, but it's getting old.

@MarietjieVanderWesthuizen you are not alone. I am spring cleaning and clearing out books I bought 10 years ago and never read. Time to make room for spring.

@soulsings

Hi There Soul, maybe in your me-time moments you can start reading one of those books?

I suppose you bought them because you felt they were interesting, so ... they are waiting for you, all clean, ready to be enjoyed 😊

@MeaningfulSilence good idea. Sometimes I donate them to a book store that supports the library and then end up buying them again!lol

I actually have quite a few books so it is good to share ones I may not get to.

@MarietjieVanderWesthuizen my neighbor was so much into cleaning that one-time she cleaned her entire driveway in rain because rain was not pouring in RIGHT DIRECTION .

anywaysshe knew she had this urge to clean everything but still managed to do her home based business ( she had this custom knitting pattern / dresses business ) so everyday after she woke up, she cleaned her work space , spotlessly shiny clean her work space, and do her work , then after doing sufficient amount of work, like about lunch time she do this cleaning her house. So that's how she managed to do her chores like this.

I think it's some kind of mental problem. Why are you always cleaning? In my opinion, a light cleaning once a week and a general cleaning once a season are enough. Moreover, during the general cleaning, I hire a company, so this process becomes even easier for me. Try delegating a part to cleaning specialists, then you will have more time for hobbies.

I don't mean to offend you but I think it sounds to me like you might have OCD which is called obsessive compulsive disorder... but honestly i wish i had that problem i never have the motivation to clean my house :/
