Christmas is a time to give, to celebrate, and to spend time together...and eating treats and very often sugary treats! It’s okay to indulge yourself a little with something nice occasionally and with the condition that you do not have to strictly follow any particular dietary diet, but for many of us it’s hard to resist the amazing, sweet comfort foods. 

Traditional holiday dishes can have a substantial effect on blood sugar levels and provide difficulties for people with diabetes and some mental illnesses such as Bipolar because they frequently suffer from high blood sugar with too many carbohydrates. Many dishes like mashed potatoes, stuffing, and desserts are typically high in simple carbohydrates and refined sugars as well as low in fiber, which may lead to rapid changes in blood sugar after eating.

Apart from challenges with diabetes, such rapid changes in blood sugar can also result in feeling irritable and having brain fog, blurred vision, headache, and difficulty sleeping and much more!

I try to always eat the same things unless it's a friday.  Fridays are my cheat days.  :)

Routines can be good, but they need to be flexible. I could image you look forward to that Friday but also feel good to be back on your healthy routine!
