Option for listeners to message members?

LatteJoy July 22nd, 2015

Hello!

I am here to suggest the idea of a listener being able to message a member they have come across in the forums or group support chats. It would be really convenient and helpful to have this option and it would help enhance our community by allowing the listeners to reach out to members too instead of just the other way around.

Thank you! Have a wonderful day/night!

~Eleanor.

This would be an interesting idea. Are you thinking that this would be helpful to members that reach out for help in the forums? Then an appropriate listener could reach out and lend a listening ear. Great idea!

@Searchison I don't think so, no. I do hope your issue gets resolved. We need a couple changes regarding this on the site.

@LatteJoy - I believe the reason this isn't currently allowed is to protect our members. Because many are already feeling vulnerable when they come here, we don't want to allow anyone who might not be acting in good faith to reach out. What you can do if you want to reach out to a member from the forums is reply to them there and make sure you tag them with @TheirName. When they log-in next, they will see the notification and can PM you if they want to! :)

@Anomalia I've been trying to do that. I understand the reason why that is not allowed, and it is kind of necessary once we think about it. Thank you for sharing that point of view. It's hard to think that anybody must come here with bad intentions.

Thank you! :)

I support this 10000000000000%.

There are so many members I encounter in tragedy that I can strongly empathize with and it's so inconvenient to try to contact them, often even after you see the message.

In group support you get a good feel for them as opposed to just the random ones waiting in queue.

I think it does more harm than good by not having it. Just put an option for "report listener for abuse" if you're that concenred about it, and the mods could just read the conversation.
