A potential improvement to the 7 Cups website!
The 7 Cups website is wonderful, and thenew feature allowing potential listeners to view the topic of concern to the distressed person (e.g. depression, anxiety, breakups, bullying) has been extremely helpful! I no longer need to refer general requests to listeners who are more experienced in certain fields than I, because I take on requests specific to my experiences and expertise.
One feature that I think would be very helpful is an indication of the rough amount of time the anonymous person wants to talk for. Conversations I have hadrangefrom 15 minutes to nearly 3 hours. Every now and then, I have about half an hour or an hour handy but I don't take any requests because I'm not clear on how long it would take to talk to them, and its hard to set limits when a person is distressed. It would also be troublesome to have to refer the person elsewhere if I had to leave in between. Perhaps the administrators could consider incorporating an option for the anonymous person to choose (alongside the topic of discussion) with the options of: 15 mins or less, 15 to 30 mins, 30 to 45 mins, 45 mins to 1 hour, 1 hour to 2 hours, or not sureetc. to ensure that the listener has some idea of how long to invest in the conversation. This would be a major help!
Thank you!! :)
@healing1996 - Thanks for the suggestion! I could definitely see how this could be really helpful, assuming that the member is able to identify that. I do know that some of my chats end up being longer or shorter than the member might have initially thought based on how the chat is going, so I wonder how accurate it would be. Still, an interesting idea!
