@Slizzy564, Hello!

1) How are you doing today? Would you like to share something with us?

Doing okay! I learned why shaking the body can help relieve pain. Lol.

2) What are some things that you're carrying around in your 'bag' at the moment?

Probably secrets that I don't share publicly.

3) Would you say that you pack lightly or tend to overpack your things when traveling?

If it was me who was packing the things, then it tends to be light. What about you?

Have a nice day!

@SnippyHam

Hey there :)

Nice to hear that you're doing well :) Oh that's sounds like useful information ! Just shaking the body can do the trick ?

I guess you have a secret bag then ;) It's fine if you don't want to share them, they wouldn't be secrets if you did would they ? ;)

Just the essentials then ! Hum I don't know, I tend to think that I pack pretty lightly but I always make sure to have enough stuff to be comfortable which is probably more than necessary x)

Thanks for checking in, take care <3

@Slizzy564,

It depends on the pain. According to what I read, shaking your hand can help if it was trapped under a rock or a spiky plant was stuck in it.

https://www.reddit.com/r/explainlikeimfive/comments/3ldh26/eli5why_does_shaking_your_body_reduce_a_sense_of/

There is even a therapy about shaking. It's interesting, but I don't have plans to read it. Lol

Interesting ! I know also for a fact that for some pains, rubbing the painful area of your skin can help, it's mostly due to overriding the nerves :) Fun facts about humans, gotta love them :)

@Slizzy564

Slizzy!!!! :) :) :)

1) How are you doing today ? Would you like to share something with us ?

I'm ok. I'm trying to not be too much in my own head, and sometimes questions about how I'm doing don't help that :)

I had a conversation with my best friend last night who more or less called me out for gravitating towards people who are not "safe people". My friend was like you seek out dysfunction, cos it makes you feel valuable to try and fix people who are really messed up. It concerned concrete friends of mine, who struggle. I see the point, but at the same time the other side is that I don't push people away just because of their struggles / trauma, etc. I guess I can see it in both a positive and a negative light. And I'm not sure which is a more useful angle. My friend was like you lack a sense of self-preservation and you gravitate to people who are self-fullfilling prophecies of dysfunction. You tend to become like the people you surround yourself with. I see that. I was twenty plus years clean before I started spending time with people who struggle with SH.

The conversation was pretty triggering, but at the same time I listened calmly. I wish I had someone to unknot it all for me, but more and more it seems like there are things I can only do, and no one can really replace that work of judgement, self-knowledge (with the painful honesty involved) and ownership. I want to trust my gut and say I know who is toxic for me and who is not. But I have realized too late before that someone I had grown attached to was really not good for me.

And there is something inside that is like "I'm valueless". And I don't know how to make that go away. It's not rational. I have all the intellectual arguments why its wrong. I assent to them. But it still drives my actions pretty much every moment. And now I'm just being self-obsessed again and turning round on myself and my own stuff. I'm not sure how useful / healthy that is either... :/

2) What are some things that you're carrying around in your 'bag' at the moment ?

Um... like every mistake I've ever made...

3) Would you say that you pack lightly or tend to overpack your things when traveling ?

I overpack. Literally (sometimes comically so...). And metaphorically.

@1morday

Heeey ! Good to hear from you again :)

Yes I do understand that questions about how things are going tend to lead to many thoughts ! But sometimes we need to let them out and that's okay too :)

Sounds like this conversation with your friend was pretty emotional and I get that it lead to a lot of thinking. It's not always easy to hear advice on how we interact with others, especially when it's coming from a close friend whos opinion, I'm guessing, you value a lot. It's good to hear that you listened to what they had to say but are also capable of criticize that and not be swallowed up but their point of view. As for 'choosing' who you interact with, maybe it's more a question of your boundaries than them being toxic ? As in knowing your limits as to how you can help them. One thing's for sure, you're not valueless, you have value and you are valid. I know it's not always easy to accept that and going down the spiral of why it is or isn't wrong can lead to many thoughts once again. Hang in there ! And if need be, we're here to listen <3

Hum would you say that your bag is heavy or is it filled with lighter things ? Some mistakes aren't as bad as others ..

Well at least you can say that you have enough with you at all times :) As for metaphorically, I can related to that, though a close friend of mine reminds that it's good to unpack now and again, sort through things, throw some away, keep some, and pack again !

Thanks for checking in, take care <3

Thanks Slizzy! :)

Yeah, knowing how to let go of things that you have been carrying for decades is... Um... I don't really know how, sometimes. You try and find that they are still there. Again and again. But, we'll get there :)

Thanks for being there. For what its worth, I've missed you guys!

@1morday

You're welcome :)

You know I tend to think that you can't just let go of something, like one day it's there and the other it's gone. I guess it takes time to be able to admit to oneself that you need to let go and then slowly, bit by bit, you can let it go, maybe you do indeed find that it's still there but one day you'll realize that you see it differently.

No worries, that's what we're here for ! You were missed too !

๐Ÿ I'm doing okay. I'm trying not to stress over things that are out of my control, but it's easier said than done. I have succeeded in both accomplishing a few things while having time for self-care, though.

๐Ÿ‚ I'm carrying around memorable things that have been said to me, both good and bad.

๐ŸŒพ Normally, I overpack, but there have been times where I didn't pack enough.

Thank you for the check-in; I appreciate you! ๐Ÿ’›๐ŸŒŸโœจ

Hey there :)

Good to hear that you're managing to keep things together. It's very true that when managing stress things are easier said than done but you're trying and that's what matters the most :) And look you even succeeded in some things and that's worth celebrating too :)

Hum peoples words can stay with us a long time after they've been said. I hope that there's more good than bad overall.

Ah well there has to be some situations that surprise us like that !

Thanks for checking in, take care <3

I'm doing my best. Yes, it's not easy, but I'm just trying to keep in mind that I have bigger fish to fry than what's popping back onto my plate, so I need to focus and organize it as I can. Hehe, thank you! Celebrating the small steps is just as valid as celebrating the big steps.

Indeed; the "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me" is false, at least to me. The bad tends to linger in my head more often, but I've been repeating the good more frequently to counteract it.

Very true!

Thanks for replying to me! Have a great week!
