Hi, I'm new here

FoundMarbles April 13th, 2016

I am new and looking to understand how the site works. Can you tell me what the ringing is? How do I answer it? If the "caller" ends the chat, can I see that? If a caller does not respond in 5 minutes, do I "end" or close the chat? Any help or advise is most welcome.

It's nice to meet you both!

Welcome to 7 cups. We're super happy to have you here and we can't wait to see you within the community

For now you can introduce yourself here. http://www.7cups.com/forum/MemberSupport_32/GeneralEntries_39/IntroduceYourselftothe7CupsMemberCommunity_12967/

You can share your story here. http://www.7cups.com/forum/MemberSupport_32/LifeStory_89/#

And you can introduce yourself to the depression community here.

https://www.7cups.com/forum/DepressionSupportCommunity_52/WelcomeIntroduceYourselfToTheDepressionSupportGroupIcebreakers_211/

What we have is 3 main roles in the 7 Cups Community

Guest: Someone who enters 7 Cups without making an account - they have no set password or profile picture

Member: Someone who has created a 7 Cups account and can access multiple group chats, personal profile/bio, may make forum posts and has a personal growth path

Listener: Someone who listens to members and guests, and supports them through their emotional journey. Listeners play multiple roles in the community and there are different ranks of leadership - e.g. Moderators, Team Leaders, Mentors, Teen Stars etc.

As a member you have the ability to send a General Request - which allows you to ask all available listeners to help you. A little notification pops up for listeners, and a listener selects your chat and talks to you when they wish. If you do not want to get just any listener, you can browse listeners and send a personal request to a specific person here: https://www.7cupsoftea.com/BrowseListeners/

If no one has responded to your chat request you can always send out another general request or personal request, or join us in group chats.

You also have a Feed - which allows you to make posts, follow users and be followed back! I hope this has answered some of your questions

@MidniteAngel could you please tell me how I can become a listener. I love helping people. Someone recommended me to this from another app and said I was excellent at listening. Best advice they've ever gotten and it makes my heart smile.

@cristiana33 Hi cristiana33, I'm taking it slow and learning my way around but I stll don't know what the ringing means. I hear a ringing as I go from page to page but I don't know what it means.

@FoundMarbles

That ringing can be muted. It means you have a new message. On the right corner (top of the page) you can see your picture. Click on it, you'll see "my settings". Click there and you need to have these:

Sound Preferences

New Message Alerts (in current chat)

New Message & Chat Request Alerts

If you don't want any sound, just make sure to unmark those boxes. For me it was always disturbing. Also, be sure to modify your status: if you are not ready to take new chats, put yourself busy or offline. Once you are online (green dot) you will receive messages all the time.
