God and My Appearance
Hello everyone, I’m new here but for a long time there’s been a question I’ve needed answers to.
Is It bad to pray to god about your appearance. I know he cares about our hearts more but isn’t beauty also a gift from him, a gift I was also hoping I could pray for.
I know I should assert the right amount of importance to the heart and my looks but in this world it still carries some importance.
people say that I shouldn’t pray about it because it’s vain and God doesn’t care about it but most of the things we pray for are vain like money or a prestigious school, a nice house but God still answers those prayers.
please tell me if it’s wrong I kind of feel helpless. I don’t want to go through other ways to make myself beautiful but I hate myself so much and there’s is so much trauma attached to who I am and how I look that I just feel I want to be made new, spiritually, mentally and physically.
Thinking that there’s no way I’ll ever be able to feel beautiful like everyone else makes me want life to be over a bit quicker and I don’t love that feeling.
And yes I know everyone is beautiful but even the bible describes some examples of outstanding beauty
@Tiana011 hi I'm lola ❤ welcome to cups ❤ I understand how you feel, looking different from others and being different is so very hard. And yes I always wish I was normal like other girls. And God loves you and hears your prayers. It's definitely ok to pray for something you want to change so badly, it's not selfish. God speaks to us in ways we can't always see, but he understands you. And oneday you'll get your answers from him ❤ gives you a giant tiny hug ❤❤I'm always here to help you in any way I can ❤
@Tinywhisper11 Thank you so much 🫂❤️❤️
@Tiana011 ❤❤❤
@Tiana011
You can take steps to make yourself look and feel more beautiful
Think of Ugly Betty and then later she is beautiful (its an old show). She is the same person just with a different appearance
So if you want to experiment with your appearance I think it is a good thing
I don't think praying to God will change how you look
@Tiana011 i think you should pray about absolutely whatever it is that you desire because God is with us at all times He already knows our wants and needs but you asking for them gives them significance and i m muslim so i m giving you what we believe in islam which is that God is your friend and even if you want an aglet of a shoe lace you should definitely pray for it the more you pray the best it is for your spirituality it doesnt matter if its vain or not its not like God doesnt know us for who we are. And another thing we believe is that sometimes God doesnt answer our prayers which is completely fine because He rewards us for those prayers in the hereafter they are added up as good deeds so no prayers go unanswered. I dont think its just about becoming beautiful I think its more just wanting something and wishing for it and establishing a connection through that if it makes any sense.
@Tiana011 Hi! I know this may be a little late, but i read your post and it never occurred to me, as a christian with very low self esteem, but it´s really a valid question now that i think about it. I think even if you dont actually pray for it, God knows your heart and mind, he knows how you feel about yourself and what you desire even if you don´t directly pray for it. Maybe if it feels shallow or dumb to ask for appeareance changes, you could try praying for knowledge about how to look better, how to present yourself best to the world. Or maybe just ask to feel better about you, to see yourself through God´s eyes with the same level of love and respect. As to what you can do, in my experience i felt the most beautifull when i was the most healthy. I used to have some acne and overweight, i began exercising and eating better and it helped... That´s all that i can say, i know its not much but i hope it helps.
@Tiana011 Thank you so much for sharing this and wanting to seek a better understanding of prayer with God. I really am sorry to hear how much the topic of appearance is weighing in your heart. I wanted to point out that each of us who has responded to you here is an imperfect individual who has so much compassion for what you are experiencing. If we as imperfect people are caring for your pain, what more with our perfect Heavenly Father who loves you even more? (Matthew 7:11). He's calling you and is listening to every word that you say, and I bet He cares more than you about what's hurting you.
This is how you can discern whether a message is a lie straight from the devil versus if the message is a truth from God - if the message results in you drawing near to God, it is truth. If the message leads to you straying away from Him, it's a lie and it's deceptive. People who tell you that you shouldn't bring your cares to God because it's vain are simply wrong. And they're lies because they're making you feel helpless and doubt God's ability to care for you. They're painting a false picture of who He is. In other words, they're saying He is not love, but really... He is love. It's literally against His nature to not care and love you. It breaks God's heart knowing what you're struggling through. Not only is He very capable of taking care of your burden, He so desperately WANTS you to cast all your cares and anxieties to Him (1 Peter 5:7). He wants you to come as you are.
If you're willing, I'd like to hear how your journey has been this past month since you've posted these questions. If you need someone to listen more about what you're going through, feel free to message me. I'll be praying to God as well that you are given the discernment and comfort you seek from Him.
