The guy I had a relationship got confused about his feelings about his ex and me and asked to some time do figure things out

I was seeing a guy who had broke up with the girl he was hanging out with just to stay with me. Yesterday he told me he was not sure about what he was feeling abou me and his ex 'cause he was thinking on and missing her lately. For this reason, he needed some time to figure things out and see what is going on with his feelings. I told him I could not wait for him and that was a problem that I had no share and that he was the only one who could figure things out and that he should be careful so he would not hurt me. He totally agreed with me and told that that was the reason he wanted some space. After that, we talked about other things of a while, had lunch together and said our goodbyes. Both cried but each one went their on way. I'm bleeding 'cause we had such conection and I do not understand how things went this way. People told me that the kind of relationship I was having were the one worth living to the fullest and right now everything is a mess, including me. Of course, I'm already moving on, but I'm afraid I'm walking away too soon or not being patient with someone who's just confused. I deserve better, but I feel lost
