I'm fearful of the future!
Okay, this is my third attempt at posting this, so here it goes. I'm going to be blunt with this post and come right out with it. Has any members here had any issues with their periods? Obviously this is a awkward question to ask but I'm really worried now as mine hasn't fully come on for eight months now, and to clarify, I'm not in a sexual relationship, and I'm still a virgin, so pregnancy is certainly out of the question. I've been under a lot of stress and I know that it can have some affects over it, for example: I almost lost my friend earlier this year, he had a perforated bowel, thankfully he's made a full recovery since then, but the shock made me realise that not only did I almost loose my best friend but a man I love too. Then there's there was a health scare with my mum, again thankfully she's alright now, my uncle suddenly died which was a huge shock to the family, then we lost our beloved pet cat Charlie to cancer, and my own cat Topsy (Charlie's half sister) fell ill and I thought we were going to loose her too, but she's fine now. I've also tried getting back into work to no avail and money worries are not far behind either.
I did see a doctor last month who diagnosed me with depression and when I mentioned my period issue, she went on straight into the worst case scenario routine. She was so cold, so unfeeling that I bust out crying and she merely looked at me as to say, "Uh, what's up with her?" I've no infertility issues with my family, but I'm so scared I won't be able to have children when the time is right... Also I'm in my late twenties now, and like most women, I desire to have children, but I'm just so scared by what this doctor told I MIGHT have. If anyone has had this problem can can relate, it would much appreciated.
@Jessica797 There was a time after taking birth control pills for several years that I didn't have my period for over 3 months. When I went to speak to a doctor I was told it was normal. I've had missed periods or really late periods a few times as well due to stress.
My suggestion for your doctor visit is to take it with a grain of salt. Doctors are not psychic and she cannot determine that you are infertile without taking further tests. You always have the option of getting a second opinion from another doctor. That's what I do. I have 4 doctors that I rotate and if one doesn't seem right I ask the opinion of another, especially when it comes to taking medication or doing any surgery. I am very squeamish when it comes to those two things.
If you don't like your doctor, give him or her the boot and find another one. Plenty of doctors out there. You are the patient, the client. Always remember that you are in control, not them.
@KoiFish Thank you for your reply. This doctor was exactly the same who gave my mum a health scare, she told her there was something wrong with her heart, but it turned out my mum had just a bit of a blood pressure problem, nothing major as this doctor said. I even told her that, well, I had blood flow but it only lasted a few days instead of six days which it normally runs. I'm going to book an appointment with a nurse, see if I get a little bit more curtesy there. I even mentioned that I was under a lot of stress but she was intent that it had nothing to do with it, which I know is perfectly untrue. Thank you again for your advice, I feel still a little unsure about the future, but I can't keep hiding from it anymore.
@Jessica797 good luck with that and let us know how the other appointments go with a quick update. Just be candid with them about your fears about infertility and see if they can run some tests. I'm sure the results will ease your fears. It's the thought of not knowing that scares us, but once we do know we will be able to make adjustments from there. :)
