Avoiding it altogether ?

Unless one's THAT desperate...

Well I think intentionally looking for someone can lead to problems. Catfishing etc. But if you happen to just meet someone on a non dating site and a relationship forms organically, then, I guess it could be okay. It will be a lot of work though.

You just have to keep in mind that it's very easy to fail if you aren't able to make it as real as possible. If someone is just text on a screen 80% of the time then you might start forming a different image of the person in your mind. And that can get bad. You're also missing out on having actual experiences together. Just talking to someone may seem to be sufficient, but...it most likely is not.

Idk I'm just rambling

Online dating is just a venue. It's not desperate to find someone online. Everyone has the places they are comfortable.

Some people are comfortable dating in bars.
Some people are comfortable dating in clubs.
Some people meet people while playing sports or participating in hobbies.
I, personally, use online dating.

Why?

Because it allows me to put everything out there at once since I am looking for something a little different from the norm. For example: I won't date anyone religious. It's not easy to vet that at the bar or playing kickball. So instead, I put up an online profile stating what I'm looking for, stating what I am and see what I can find.

Don't let people tell you not to try something.

Online dating isn't for everyone but it MIGHT be for you, why not try?
