Dyslexia Awareness Week (5 - 11th November)

This week (November 5 - 11th) is Dyslexia Awareness Week!

Theme for 2015: Making Sense of Dyslexia

What is dyslexia?

Dyslexia is a learning disability that affects the way information is processed, stored and retrieved. Those with dyslexia are able to perceive things from many different angles. However, this can cause confusion when something should be viewed from only one perspective, such as symbols (letters and numbers). For example: d flipped over could be seen as b, or q or p, depending on the viewpoint.

This can lead to difficulties with literacy and numeracy skills. But dyslexia can also affect speed of processing, time perception, organization and sequencing. So some may also have difficulty with navigating a route, left and right, remembering names and so on.

The theme of this Dyslexia Awareness Week is 'Making Sense of Dyslexia', be it at home, in the workplace, at school or somewhere else.

Here are a few activities you can take part in throughout this entire week:

I'm looking forward to the discussions!! I have two kids with Dyslexia and my brother-in-law is Dyslexic as well (which is the only thing that prepared me for my kids' Dyslexia). Count me in!

I have dyslexia I wish I did not have it

I'll try to participate on the discussion led tomorrow. My mom has signs of dyslexia since young age and no one ever cared for it at that time, so i'd love to know more about it :)

I'm very glad awareness is being brought about it!
