Newbies: What Made you Become a Listener?
Hello all you newbie listeners! First and foremost, allow me to welcome you to 7cups and welcome you to becoming a listener! To go along with our Appreciation Fesitval, and today being Newbie Appreciation Day, I wanted to take the time and make a thread dedicated to you!
So, the main question is: What made you become a listener? What made you click on that "Become a Listener" button? We appreciate every newbie listener because that many more people seeking help on here have 1 more person they can turn to. Even though you are new, just know that you are so soo soooo appreciated! I can't wait to hear your answers!
I didn't want people to go through what I had to
I found this site when I needed help however I found that I had a greater desire to help others using the experiences of my life and all I have been through. And that helping others also helps me too.
The reason why I wanted to become a Listener was because I have a goal of becoming a Life Coach someday. I came across this website almost a year ago ( so im not a newbie lol ) and I thought it would be helpful for my career to learn more about, the different aspects/stages/levels people go through in their lives. I thought that 7 cups would teach me more about different Life topics that I didn't really know much about.
Being a Listener on here makes me learn more about the different obstacles that people go through daily, and by knowing the different hardships that people go through, it helps me learn how to navigate others in their struggles with a positive mindset.
@Jarsya To be honest, it was the summer internship programme that gave me the inspiration to become a listener. Initially I came to 7 cups wanting to find someone to talk to. Little did I know that I'd volunteer and get involved in counselling. It's nice to be able to contribute to the community and gain exposure along the way. It also serves as a reminder that I have to be strong and take care of myself before I can help out others. Keep up the good work, everyone!
@Jarysa
I became a listener because I know how it feels to be unheard...
I became a listener because I wanted to spread the positivity I have to others. I overcame depression and suicide attempts several times and know what it's like to feel hopeless. This website allows me to help others.
How did I become a listener
I was raised in a world of criticism
Banished as a young man to toughen me
But this life without love has not toughened me
Or made me cruel
Instead it has etched upon my soul,
beneath the sadness and the pain,
vistas of sensitivity
it has hewed from my heart
chasms of compassion
that allow me to listen.
I sit before you wounded as you are and I listen to your suffering
And each details strikes a chord within
I have always been a listener
Open to the pain of others
It has taken a while to find my home

Hey there! I'm a new listener & im absolutely loving the experience, although I could use a little help every now & again. I read that getting a mentor is a wise thing to do, how would I go about doing this? Thanks!
@Emma231 glad you are a listener. Yes a mentor can help us get over hurdles. It is very easy to get a mentor.

I have battled anxiety and have been through alot of things myself. Till the time I didnt get familiar with 7cups I always felt I couldnt share my problems with anyone , I have tried but my anxiety was never taken very seriously and everyone thought I am over reacting to things. I know how having someone just listen to you can be so supportive. I wanted to let others know too that whatever they are facing in their life, they are not alone and there are people who understand them. Also when I started listening here to more and more people I realized we all are fighting our own battle. I get inspired by other members/guests here and it makes me strong and gives me hope too. Its the most rewarding thing I have done till now.
Even today I ask myself why I clicked that button that said, become a listener. I don't know the actual need behind that choice. But in know I dont regret it. Kindness and compassion causes a ripple effect. I wanted to be the part od this ripple effect. The grand scheme of the working of the cosmos.
