Your poem was very sad to read, being an ode to deadly nightshade. It was very beautiful the way you describe the symptoms of it's ingestion in a way that makes it seem transcendental. "Heart Pounding, palms sweating, the confusion sets in" makes it sound like the beginning of a love affair.
This theme of transcendence is bolstered in the second stanza as you explore it in a way that sounds vaguely metaphysical. Then the final stanza sounds almost romantic if it were not for the subject matter; The narrator giving their pledge and at the same time beseeching for the plants effects, and leaving us with the bleak statement that their 'story' is to end. That all things inevitably must die, and reminding us of the impermanence of existence.
I hope that what ever inspiration engendered this poem is but fleeting, and that gentle times replace them for you. Your poem certainly stirs the emotions.
Thank you for your kind words and critique. 💜.
I wrote this one shortly after my last admission, when I so desperately needed an outlet and a way to describe what addiction and depression felt like to me. I reference it every now and then and remind myself of not only how far I’ve come, but where I don’t want to live.

It is heartening to hear you can draw ongoing motivation from the art you created. I look forward to seeing more of your poems in the future.

A serene sense of reality is felt from your poems, Beth! Especially after knowing that it is about addiction, I could see the bridge! Though I do not relate.. I feel the helplessness and the fighting spirit through it. It amazing how you depict everything in a so raw and vivid manner. I share your love for poetry and hope you continue to write! It is really amazing, as Knight said, how your art helps you! Sending you love..<3
