SMALL POEM (LET ME KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS)
I KNOW I MAKE MISTAKES I KNOW I'M SUCH A MESS
BUT WHY DO YOU HAVE TO BE SO CRUEL
WHY DO I ALL ALWAYS FEEL LIKE A FOOL
YOUR WORDS ARE SHARP AS A KNIFE
AND I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND
IF I AM THE LOVE OF YOUR LIFE
WHY DO YOU KEEP BREAKING MY HEART
@REGIS0405
Word words embody the uncertainty and self doubt one can feel when those who ostensibly should care for us and yet who's behaviour does not reflect that. The unregular rhyming scheme and differently weighted stanza construction adds to this sense of unbalance, and doubt.
The last two lines are very poignant and an excellent summation of the poems theme; "If I am the love of your life, why do you keep breaking my heart". The paradoxical situation of a relationship that causes pain even whilst professing affection.
Nicely written.
@REGIS0405 I love how it's all in capital letters—there's something about it that really conveys a sense of anger, deep despair, or maybe overwhelming sorrow. It brings out those intense emotions. I also really like the lack of question marks, as it feels less like the speaker is asking and more like they're firmly stating that the other person is cruel and keeps breaking their heart. Though the poem intially is about self doubt, confusion (atleast the words are) --- Maybe it's just me, but I really appreciate the speaker’s confidence in their words (the capital letters without the question marks)—the speaker don’t seem like the fool or the mess the other person is trying to make them out to be. Kudos! Keep writing more poems.
