I wish
I wish to know the world
as it should be, now as is
mostly disappointing me
it’s the future world I wish to see
til now’s been narrow
selfish, greedy, unaware
I’d accepted wrongly or rightly
rightly rejected or wrongly demurred
plasma phase silhouette, it appeared
time machine, always there, now here
visible at the out-breath then
now 20/20 and
in-breath into the future once again
world has improved one breath hence
it’s bigger, better, less intense
with each breath apparent, is the filter
not the world, I couldn’t see
not the world, off kilter, me
@PineTreeTree This is such a beautifully introspective poem! You’ve really captured the tension between wanting a better world and recognising the flaws in the present. The contrast between the now and the future, with that longing for change, really resonates. I love the "plasma phase silhouette" and "time machine" imagery – it feels like you’re looking both backwards and forwards, trying to get a grasp on time itself.
