I found the two lines very interesting as I could see how they could be read in two ways; the first, the narrator self berating for not taking the very action which might ease their isolation yet lamenting that their inactivity is only felt by themselves. 

The other way to see it is two separate voices; the first concerned and worried what might be wrong to keep the subject closed off. The second voice bitterly sad that they are not missed, oblivious to the fact of how their absence IS noted, but due to their self imposed isolation, have no way to learn the truth.

I liked it.
