They’re in pain.

I can see it

I’ve been there

I know how this pain feels.

The marks on her wrist, wrists she’s covering with long sleeves and a brilliant smile.

The flinch when his dad arrives, fear of what will happen at home flashing through his eyes.

The silence when she gets back a test, knowing that an 85% won’t ever be good enough for her parents.

The red in his eyes when he arrives at class, marks of hidden tears cried alone in a bathroom.

I’m watching.

Watching them struggle

Watching it slowly destroy them.

Watching this monster rip them apart

And I’m wishing.

Wishing I could break out

Wishing I could tell them that I know

Wishing I could fix this

But I’m here.

Stuck watching

Helpless.
