Finding or creating a safe space

sympatheticPlane7106 May 7th, 2016

I need help finding or making a safe place for myself at my college until spring (2017). People are very racist here even though it is an "university". I am going to transfer soon but I need a place where I can cope with this issue. It is not only me. Other young black girls and women are dealing with the same issue. Some of us get harrassed all the time about our bodies and hair, especially if we are alone. What can I do? Please help.crying

@sympatheticPlane7106 I can imagine how hard it is for you to go to school and worry about people harassing you all the time. It can create much anxiety. There's an organization called Hollaback! that deals with such harassment in public places including schools. I provided the link that might help you connect to them and also read stories about others who are in similar situations. Does your school have administration or groups who can assist you in dealing with it?

I have heard good things about Hollaback and the great resources they have available.

@KimsonTheSteveFundYPOC Does Hollaback help with racial harassment? I thought it was just for street harassment.

It got so bad for me in high school. I did not walk across the stage. I just left with my diploma. Most of the kids didnt care. My "friends" were not there either.

They still laughed at me even then...
