i think i have BPD but don’t want to self-diagnose
im 16, Female. i’ve been emotionally unstable and called “dramatic” and “never able to please” since i was a toddler. ive been thinking about having BPD for about two years after learning what it was and have done extensive research on it. but i don’t want to self-diagnose as being seen as a faker isn’t good. obviously.
is there any way for me to get a diagnosis or assessment without having my family know?
@wittySailboat1130 I wanted to say that I am really proud of you for wanting to seek out help just in case you did have BPD. Also, it seems you know the importance of differentiating between wanting to be informed and self-diagnosing. No one would be able to answer your question about if you can see a doctor without your parents knowing. In the USA, each state has their own law; so in one place a minor may very well be able to see a doctor without their parents knowing but in another, you parents may need to consent. I commend you for trying to learn about BPD so you can seek treatment in case you do have it. I would like to ask, if you don't mind, why wouldn't you seek the support of your parents, so you all can find out together and make a treatment plan in case. I hope all is well with you and that you are ok. I hope you are able to find guidance, love, and support with your parents when the time comes. I hope your life gets better and you get out of it all you wish it to be. I hope you are happy. Please be kind to yourself. ☆

Hello there!
I think it depends on the law in your current state, also if there is any professional support in places like school or any social help for teenagers. If so they could guide you and let you know about the diagnosis process.
