OCD?

sisZuzu May 6th

Hi! So I have been experiencing symptoms of OCD since I was about 5 years old, and I self diagnosed at age 13. I haven't gotten a diagnosis or anything because the country where I live doesn't really have options for therapy or anything like that. I have done a lot of research on OCD, though, so it's not me self diagnosing based on the "I'm so quirky and orderly lol" version of OCD. I experience pretty terrible intrusive thoughts and have compulsions, and I have pretty severe anxiety because of that.

I guess what I'm trying to ask is if my version of self-diagnosis is ok. Cause like, self-diagnosis is seen very negatively because a certain mental illness/disorder might be misrepresented in the media. *cough* *** *cough*

So yeah. Just thoughts :)

@sisZuzu First of all, having a condition that is difficult to diagnose due to your country of residence must be so hard for you. I think people do not want to 'be okay with" self-diagnosis because there is always a chance that the diagnosis is wrong. I applaud you for trying to educate yourself in an effort to do some self-help. Having thoughts that you cannot control is sometimes scary, sometimes distracting and it makes total sense that you want to understand more about it. While no volunteer on this site can give you advice, we can offer nonjudgmental support and encouragement as you find your way forward.
