Figuring Out Me

Hi, my new name is Estell. I’m 18 and I think I’m non binary and pansexual. I’m not totally sure. I’m just now figuring myself out.
I wanted to ask for advice. I need support because my entire family is homophobic. I’ve never come out publicly, usually only online but usually take it down as soon as someone in my family has the same app and could see my profile. I wanted to ask if anyone knows how to find local support groups in my community.
I also am still trying to figure out everything about my gender and sexuality. I’m not quite sure what my pronouns are. If anyone thinks they can help pls comment, I need help.
Thanks! It’s nice to know there are groups out there willing to listen! I’m happy to be on 7Cups!

Hi Estell, I’m really glad you reached out. It takes a lot of courage to explore your identity, and it’s completely okay not to have everything figured out yet. Figuring out your gender and sexuality is a process, and it's okay to take it one step at a time. It’s great that you're exploring and looking for support during this time.

Good to meet you, Estell!
I’m also non-binary living with a similar family situation. My piece of advice is to always maintain your connection to community. When you’re exposed to that type of environment, especially for longer durations of time at home, sometimes the homophobia can throw your center off balance and make you question the validity of your identity. At least, that’s what happened to me for some time. I had drifted apart from some of my older friends, and I wasn’t really engaged online in LGBTQ spaces, so it really just messed with my head I think. Don’t allow their views to influence the way you feel about yourself because you are absolutely valued just for who you are. No one can change that. I’m wishing you the best of luck and you can always hit me up if you need to talk :)
