What is sexual attraction?

Anyone4wks September 13th, 2022

Hi all,

So I've thought for a few years that I might be on the ace spectrum, but I never really believed it or gave it much thought because I've never dated anyone and just thought that if I get to know someone it'd just happen. Now that I'm looking more into my sexual orientation I've realized that I'm a bit confused on what is considered sexual attraction.

Like, when I see someone and think they look attractive, I want to be them, look like them or hang out with them, have a coffee whatever. But I've never seen someone and wanted to do any sexual things with or towards them. I've felt urges before, but very rarely with anyone in mind.

What does this mean? Is having urges the same as sexual attraction?

No, I'd say not.

I didn't experience sexual attraction until I was in my 20s. For me personally, I find people attractive in an "aesthetically appealing" sort of way. I think they look good. But I don't experience sexual attraction unless I have an emotional/romantic bond with someone. The stronger that bond is, the more I am sexually attracted to them. But I still have a normal libido... it's just not directed at anyone and unless I have that emotional connection with someone, I prefer to satisfy my libido by myself. 🤷🏼‍♀️
