Hello LDP Team!
I am enjoying this program and I hope that you all are finding it helpful and meaningful! I'm excited about this next course. The problem is the path is the core insight that helps us evolve as individuals and as a community here on 7 Cups.
Here is an overview of this course:
Course Description: It is natural for us to want to avoid problems. Problems can cause worry, anxiety, and frustration. These are feelings that we often want to avoid. Problems, however, are the key to growth. When we face our problems directly we get smarter and grow stronger. A saying that captures this is: Progress = Pain + Reflection. This course helps you learn the value of problems by highlighting the difference between problems you might be concerned about and problems you can directly solve. Next, it walks you through the ancient practice of steering into problems directly in order to unlock their value and gifts. Finally, it helps you identify and measure progress so you can make continued gains in your personal and professional life.

1. Watch the following video and identify 3 things in your circle of concern, 3 things in your circle of influence, and 1 thing you can do to remind yourself to focus on your circle of influence.
Circle of Concern
1. My health in the future
2. Climate change
3. My mum's health
Circle of Influence
1. My next step to take
2. How I spend my time (mostly!)
3. How I choose to view others
I can remind myself that there are other people who are in positions of power and influence to change the things I worry about. Also remembering that uncertainty is a part of being human. I can bring the focus back to myself and try to be aware of spiralling thoughts.
He wasn't critical and instead saw the other person's weaknessess as a chance to show his own strengths and work in harmony. He was empathetic and sought to understand where the other person was coming from.
@gentleFox20
I really like your reminder that there are people out there who are in a position where they have influence over concerns that we can't do anything about. The human society is built on trust and I you reminded me, that I need to cherish my own trust into others. Thank you!
@GlenM
Three things in my circle of concern are: (1) finishing my studies, (2) extracurriculars, (3) my relationships with other people.
Three things in my circle of influence are: (1) makes schedules for when I do what course/when I study for what exam, (2) checking what extracurriculars will be valuable to me in terms of future opportunities and in terms of what fulfills me the most, (3) taking breaks from work and going out with people, planning trips.
The executive focused on his circle of influence rather than his circle of concern, he analyzed the president’s strengths and tried to compensate for his weaknesses, such that he didn’t come across as threatening. His circle of influence expanded until he was always involved in decisions and asked for his thoughts.
@Glue
One thing I can do to remind myself to focus on my circle of influence is re-evaluating what my goals are and whether being reactive is helping me in attaining them.
@Glue
I like that you mention the expansion of the executive's circle of influence. The example in the video indeed shows this positive effect, that a focus on your circle of influence can have, very well.
@GlenM
1.
Three things of my concern is: 1) meaning of life and well-being 2)to earn money in a way that benefits the society and 3) to learn efficiently
Three things on my influence is: 1) trying to write blogs(wrote articles but never post because didn't finish the webpage) 2) part-time job in summer 3) to share my learning experience with my classmate
(not much of influence but I'll go step by step)
2.
@Glencia89
I think, you already have detected a lot of influence! You can do something meaningful and reflect on life in your blog, earn money with your job in summer, and find new learning strategies. I wish you all the best for that!
@GlenM
1. Watch the following video and identify 3 things in your circle of concern, 3 things in your circle of influence, and 1 thing you can do to remind yourself to focus on your circle of influence.
Three things that are in my circle of concern are
- the self-doubt that I'm not good enough,
- my health situation, and
- some family issues.
Three things that are in my circle of influence are
- making attentive decisions,
- focusing on self-care, and
- working on my own healing.
One thing that I can do to remind myself to focus on my circle of influence is a question that a coach used to ask me: "Is it your business, is it their business, or is it God's business?" (God's business means that we humans can't influence it at the moment, e.g. the weather.)
2. Next, watch the following video and highlight what stands out to you about this executive? What did they do that would be considered proactive as opposed to reactive?
I find it admirable that, instead of getting frustrated by the boss's behaviour, the executive decided to focus on how he can support the team and the boss. So, instead of reacting to the situation in a destructive way, he was proactive and offered the competences that he had.
@audienta
I like your reminder 💜
@GlenM

Circle of influence: 1)the way i treat my children

3) getting the steps done i need to do to make my living situation better.
1 thing i can do to remind myself to focus on my influence
I will not participate in negativity.

t stands out to you about this executive? What stands out to me about this executive ? He
What did they do that would be considered proactive as opposed to reactive? Complimentary team
@GlenM
3 things in your circle of concern - From the video, it was clear that Circle of concern is something which is beyond our control. I am really not sure if I have these concerns to be frank. But in-order to answer this I would say the following points:
As am a Family Man of-course- a. Family (staying together- wife, children) welfare comes priority, which in-turn focus on point b. Financial Stability- how to run the family with the savings we have. how to go by every month expenses ,etc. Point c. Leaving old aged parents in home town and working abroad - in a way this is selfish mind, for our betterment our parents took care of us, giving us all comforts and now when they are in need of us, we are far away building our own empire (family) .
3 things in your circle of influence- a. Health of family- This is under our control, we can decide on a healthy living. Health is not about just eating healthy food, health is everything that you do in a disciplined and going by one's principles. b. 7 Cups- Circle of influence work by many ways. In here, many listeners, leaders have influenced me to be a better listener, a better human. For Ex- My LDP mentor here is showing me how to be the best mentor. So yes, it’s all in how we accept things thrown at us. c. For a better tomorrow- Write a diary- keep note of day today things so that you yourself can analyse and bring in those good changes which may be useful for a better tomorrow
Q. Highlight what stands out to you about this executive?
He was very proactive working by his circle of influence mindset rather than complaining or worrying. He was an event better leader bring out his ideas asking his colleagues their ideas and then sharing the same with the Manager. He allowed everyone to participate and at the end its always positive for all individuals to grow with the organisational growth as well. he became even a better leader than his Manager
Q. What did they do that would be considered proactive as opposed to reactive?
They shared their opinions, everyone worked as a team , helping each other and then discussed with the management as a team
.
@GlenM
3 things in my circle of concern – family health and well being, what the future looks like for me, world conflict
3 things in my circle of influence – where I focus my efforts, who I choose to listen to and take advice from, putting in effort for A Levels.
1 thing you can do to remind yourself to focus on your circle of influence. Constant reflection, thinking about what steps I can take to let go of my circle of concern, and acceptance.
The video - Focusing on relationships for example, and learning and experience grows. Taking initiative. Focusing on own circle of influence. Empathising. Trying to understand and come down to the same level. Not making weaknesses irrelevant.
1. Circle of concern: Cyberbullying, Bad news, School stress Circle of influence: 7 cups, School friends, Trusted adults
One thing to remember to focus on the circle of influence: Even if there are people who are mean to me, I still have someone that can support me.
2. What stands out to you about this executive?
Empathy over criticism is good for focusing on the circle of influence
What did they do that would be considered proactive?
-Read the Situation
-He anticipate the President's needs
@GlenM
1) My circle of concern: Mine & my family’s health and wellbeing, fear of the future and fear of not knowing if I will be accepted into my main University option.
2) My circle of influence:
- Focusing on ways to improve such as planning extra curriculums or volunteering to increase my chance of getting into the University.
- Focus on self-care and living in the moment to feel less fear of the future and to live in the now instead for example by spending more time doing things I enjoy and spending more time with family.
- I tend to self-sabotage by taking on too many tasks or activities so I think I should plan my time more and give myself plenty of breaks so I can be proactive while also meeting my own needs.
3) To remind me to focus on my circle of influence I could ask myself ‘what would you say to your best friend’ because I tend to give my best advice to the people I love and/or care about. So, this is to remind me to care for myself as much as I care for others.
2
2)What stands out to me about this executive was he
focused more on what everyone wanted and listened to their thoughts and
opinions before deciding on an action plan. When listening he also used empathy
and active listening to get a better understanding.
2) Something the executive did that could be seen more as proactive instead of reactive because instead of criticising people he would compensate for them and would address the underlying concern.
3 things in your circle of concern,
- My family
- my circle of friends/ faith
- my life
3 things in your circle of influence,
- my family
- my friends
- my teachers
1 thing you can do to remind yourself to focus on your circle of influence.
1. Do things i love to do and make small goals for myself so i can attain them better
Do things you love to do, I like it :) I could use that reminder myself :p
