dino's nest (poems, recipes, and self-care space)
hello friend! welcome to my nest. hopefully for this here i plan to have a daily tip or recommendation and perhaps leave here a poem i found and maybe even a recipe. feel free to join me along this little self-care journey, and maybe subscribe :)
to start things off, let's do some baking today!
being in the southern hemisphere, it is currently the middle of winter for me, meaning it is the peak of cold and flu season as well. along with this, i also get a lot of recipe ideas on my tiktok. this one piqued my interest, espeically since i had a bit of a cold when i found it:
orange biscuits!
as you know, oranges are best known for being a good source of vitamin c. they are also thought to have anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial benefits. oranges contain b vitamins, vitamin a, calcium, potassium, vitamin c, and are a good source of fibre.
so when i found this recipe, i had to try it!
ingredients:
- 1-3 oranges
- 45g caster sugar
- 100g softened butter
- 160g flour (low-gluten flour recommended)
- rock salt (for optional prep)
method:
- (optional step) rub the skin of your orange(s) with rock salt, then rinse clean
- pre-heat your oven to 160 degrees celsius (325 degrees farenheit)
- grate the orange skin to get a substantial amount of orange zest
(do not throw out or dispose of your skinned orange you will need this)
- rub or mix the orange zest well with your caster sugar
- with the skinned orange, peel any remains and then cut into thin slices
- lay these slices onto a paper towel, then gently press another paper towel on top of the slices to absorb the juices
- in your orange sugar, mix the softened butter and gradually mix in the flour. mix until a dough has formed
- roll out and flatten your dough onto a sheet of baking paper, then freeze for 10 minutes
- once frozen, cut orange-sized circles out of the dough to put onto your tray for the oven
- lay a orange slice on top of each dough circle
- put your biscuits into the oven for around 25 minutes or until the biscuits underneath are a golden colour
- let your biscuits cool out of the oven, then serve :)
and thats how you can make some orange biscuits that are a sweet delight that will make you feel happy and rejuvenated!
let me know how they turn out :D
