A poem
This is a poem I wrote about how I feel with the current climate of the United States. A little background: I am originally from Minneapolis and cannot be there to support my friends and family. I have witnessed the type of racism that is being brought to the foreground right now. I have defended my African American friends against cops as a teenager. Not all cops are bad. But there is a definitely strong bias in many. And racism in many others. This is a poem I wrote yesterday about how I am feeling and I'm sure, in a sense, how we're all feeling currently. I hope you enjoy.
I am Hurting Today
I am hurting today.
I am hurting for my sorrows.
I am hurting for my joys.
My past. My present.
I am hurting today.
I am hurting today.
I am hurting for the ones without a voice.
I am hurting for the ones whose voices were silenced.
The old. The new.
I am hurting today.
I am hurting today.
I am hurting for the tragedies that have gone unseen.
I am hurting for the tragedies that will never be unseen.
The lies. The truths.
I am hurting today.
I am hurting today.
I am hurting for the fears that corrupt the mind.
I am hurting for the fears that strengthen a people.
The strong. The weak.
I am hurting today.
I am hurting today.
I am hurting for the ones condemned to walk on glass.
I am hurting for the ones condemned to walk on silk.
The rich. The poor.
I am hurting today.
We are hurting today.
We are hurting for our brothers.
We are hurting for our sisters.
Our friends. Our family.
We are hurting today.
We are hurting today.
We are hurting for our countrymen.
We are hurting for our citizens.
Our enemies. Our neighbors.
We are hurting today.
We are hurting today.
We are hurting for our nation.
We are hurting for our homeland.
Our city. Our country.
We are hurting today.
We are hurting today.
We are hurting for our songs to be heard.
We are hurting for our days to make sense.
For lives to matter. For violence to be quenched.
We are hurting today.
We are hurting today.
We are hurting for all the fallen heroes.
We are hurting for all the unsung heroes.
The known. The unknown.
We are hurting today.
We are hurting today.
We are hurting in every rallying cry that goes out.
We are hurting in every tear that goes unanswered.
For freedom to prevail. For good to prevail.
We are hurting today.
We are hurting today.
We are hurting but we will not be defeated.
We are hurting but we will not stand by.
Will not rest. Will not be silent.
We are hurting today.
We are hurting today.
We are hurting but we will stand up.
We are hurting but we will come together
The sickness will end. The brutality will end because
We are hurting today.
