Topic: Self-Awareness

Wallis October 21st

Self-Awareness is a skill that I need to practice all my life. In the growth path, it says: Self-awareness also entails recognizing both strengths and weaknesses, acknowledging past mistakes, and celebrating achievements, leading to a realistic self-image that forms the basis for healthy self-esteem and self-acceptance.

I believe that we all have a self-image inside, which shapes our self-esteem along with many other things. A false self-image can lead to a false idea of what we should do or should not do. I was always lucky to have someone who was close to me to remind me when I was mislead by any false self-image. To have a realistic self-image, I reflect a lot to have a right understanding of myself. I gradually starts to accept my weakness and find ways to eliminate any negative consequences of them. For example, when I found myself too anxious and impatient in a certain circumstance, I would step outside for a while till I calm down.

I would like to encourage you to discuss the question below:

Try to describe your self-image before and after you practice self-awareness. Can you identify any new characteristics of your realistic self-image now?

I welcome you to reply this post and share your findings!

@Wallis I find it admirable that when you recognize that you’re feeling a bit too impatient or anxious you take it upon yourself to calm down by stepping outside. Sometimes, calming down is easier said than done so I would like to commend you on taking initiative.

Thank you for your lovely post. 💓

Before reflecting, I used to think that my self image composed of only positive traits - but after reflection I started having a greater acceptance of both positive and negative traits which eventually increased my self integration and made me feel more stable in life.

Queen thanks for replying. You inspired me in that reflecting brings the feeling of stableness and then bring the feeling of authenticity. Wonderful point here!

@Wallis Great post! I find that before self-reflecting, I am keenly aware of all of my bad traits. However, after practicing self-awareness, I become aware that I am made of many parts, good and bad!

@Wallis

I think before self reflection I thought that I had some positive traits and was average enough, after self reflection I think I started viewing myself i a better light upon realising the care and love I give to not only the people around me but also to myself that I was not acknowledging.

@Wallis

Before practicing, I may be feeling restless and frustrated. After, taking time to breathe deeply and relax my body, I am calmer and better able to respond to and be in the present.
