Garden planning is in full swing now. With a break in the weather, my head is spinning.

Anyone else out there want to talk about their plans? What do you plan on planting?

Do you plan on composting, building raised beds or boxes, vertical gardening, pallet projects?

Making any decorations for the garden? Ideas on pest control (animals, bugs, birds), recycling things to use in the garden?

companion planting, guild planting?

saving rainwater?

Are you gardening to:

a) save money

b) eat healthier

c) keep busy

d) distract yourself from symptoms

e) other -tell us about it

What do you plan on planting? Lots of flower varieties, including mints, sunflowers, lilacs, zinnias, tulips, alyssum, yarrow, iris, marigolds... veggies including brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, onions, garlic, cherry and larger tomatoes, 5 varieties of peppers from mild to medium-hot, cauliflower, broccoli, spinach, five varieties of lettuces, chives, mustard, rutabagas and turnips

Do you plan on composting? Yes, compost bins hopefully

Building raised beds or boxes, vertical gardening, pallet projects? pallet beds, pallets rebuilt into boxes, pallets as vertical garden and fence.

Making any decorations for the garden? putting together stuff for a fairy village with mini tea sets, moss, water (to look like a mini pond), tiny flowers like alyssum and yarrow, harebells.

Ideas on pest control (animals, bugs, birds), recycling things to use in the garden? cornmeal for slugs, egg shells around plants for various bugs, cinnamon powder on plants, cayenne pepper to repel most animals, irish spring soap to repel animals, hang old scratched CD's from trees to keep animals and birds out,

companion planting, guild planting? some companion planting.

saving rainwater? yes, rain barrels in convenient locations

Are you gardening to:

a) save money? Yes

b) eat healthier? Yes

c) keep busy? Yes

d) distract yourself from symptoms? Yes

e) other? Yes-to share. It's nice to be able to take fresh flowers to friends, neighbors, etc. share veggies with others who are too busy or arent' inclined to garden, but love the veggies... Can also share with soup kitchens, food banks, local churches, your mail carrier... etc.

Oh how I wish I had more time for gardening! I had a beautiful garden at my last house with a small fountain and small gold fish pond. I just loved the sound of the water running when sitting on the deck.

My new house has the standard new house landscaping by the "how little can we spend and still call it landscaping" company. I hope to order some peonies soon to plant along the back fence. I love peonies.
