@MistyMagic Kheer, a typical sweet dish eaten on birthdays in my culture. People also typically eat fish and polaw for lunch on birthdays (unless it's on a Thursday or Saturday, when fish is not eaten) and puri and alur dom. Very heavy, I know, especially when added with cake, but that's typical.
I can't cook any of this, though. I'm too young to cook any of these yet.
@exuberantBlackberry9105 hahah never too young to watch and learn! But it is tradition it seems that the older you get the more you cook?

@MistyMagic I mean, kind of yes, but I am just not very interested in handling fire and cooking. I can cook basic things like rice in the pressure cooker or rolling rotis or making sandwiches or toasting bread, but the things I wrote above are definitely more complicated and time consuming recipes, and I'm not interested in learning them. Kheer is very tricky to make, and it takes a long time and constant stirring. Puris are very tricky too, because they're fried in oil, and I'm just too scared to handle oils and fire together, because I could burn myself accidentally.
@exuberantBlackberry9105 Thank-you for sharing with us! I am googling and looking at the recipes!

@NewYorker11
I love Mexican food! It would definitely be an amazing addition to our celebration!!
Favorite meals.... any of these, all are tied... grilled ribeye, lasagna, or make your own tacos (putting all the ingredients out and everyone fills their own shells... taco seasoned hamburger, cheese, tomato, lettuce, black olives, fresh diced onion, butter friend mushrooms, refried beans, etc... who knows what else could be added... these are things we put out. And then top it off with my family's handed down recipe for no bake cheesecake.
@EmbStitcher23
Your favorite meals all look amazing! I specifically love the idea of make your own tacos, I've always enjoyed those stations with all the options laid out in front of you. What would your taco have in it if you got to make one?
@Paprika001
I forgot to mention sour cream...lol. Mine would have taco hamburger, shredded cheddar, fried mushrooms, sour cream, taco sauce, tomato and shredded lettuce... sometimes I'll add a couple black olives.
@EmbStitcher33
Oooh that sounds like such a good taco!
@MistyMagic
I absolutely loveee this thread, party planning is so exciting! Considering that our community is so big, I think we definitely need to have multiple tables of food with a range of options. It would be amazing to show our cultural diversity through the food, so some Mexican, Italian, Indian, and Chinese food (just some examples). I would also love to see a table just for a variety of desserts. Although I am a savoury over sweet person, I find dessert tables amazing!
But on top of all of this, we still need the classic pizza and cake cause what's a party without theseee. The pictures you put are making me so hungry even though I just ate dinner ahaha
@Paprika001 heehee Yes! Exciting and you have more recent experience than me of birthday parties so I value your tips!

@MistyMagic
Ahaha I love the reference to the birthday partyyy
Lately I've been making all different kinds of air fried "veggie tots". Broccoli, cauliflower, sweet potato, zucchini, and classic potato. I'll bring a tray of them with some dips like ketchup, Buffalo sauce, ranch, honey mustard, etc.
@meremuse I recently;y got an air fryer and I am still experimenting with what I can cook in it. Those sound great, what do you do with the cauliflower to stop the edges burning or is that just me lol? And Buffalo sauce?
Listening - One Step At A Time!
You grate or "rice" the veggies (I use a food processor) then use egg and breadcrumbs to bind them, along with other seasonings. Shape into a patty or tater-tot size. They are yummy and kid friendly. Buffalo sauce, I don't know how to describe it. It's spicy, watch that buffalo's bite!
@MistyMagic yay celebrations! โจ
@cheerfulIceCream It didn't. I have conquered life.

I would bring either some in n out burgers for everyone or either some Cheeba hut, or maybe just maybe some wayback burgers. for everyone :)
@NicholasW what is Cheeba Hut? Can you tell and share the recipe? Please? Or wayback? I am confused now lol!

I would make this recipe for bbq pulled chicken. You put boneless chick pieces with the sauce (bbq sauce, a little brown sugar, Italian dressing, a mini bottle of Jack Daniels, and a teaspoon on red pepper flakes) into a crock pot and let it cook slowly for a few hours. Shred the chicken. You can also add more sauce once you're finished.
