@MusicCandy @SadMe70 A place to communicate
@MusicCandy Hello! I have to get ready for work but will post more later!
so to try to remember what i typed last week-- First Happy 50! I think you should bring out all the treats that you can and have a happy eating and drinking time. My 50th - I booked a weekend in Williamsburg andcI paid for a lot of it for my sisters and my Mom- except one nice dinner from one sister. Of course - none of that now for anybody. I hope you enjoy your day .
Good to hear about the baby goat and the other farm brood. It does make you happier to be outside with nature and the animals. Sounds like the baby goat is just a hoot, beside having to clean up ect. It was so rainy last week, but Rachael and I still walked every morning - one day with the umbrella. The rain has sprouted all my plants and herbs though. i picked a few strawberries - they came back from last year. The lemon balm is practically a small tree. I clipped that some and brought it to work. I also have some mint and cilantro. And looking forward to peppers and eggplant soon.
Work has not been too bad last 2 weeks. We still get potential positive and positive tested patients - but people mostly know what to do now. Gradually the out patients are coming back so full staffing is around the corner. I just want to get my hair cut! I don't know what the summer will be like . We mostly like to kayak or walk which is easy to stay away from people. I do love the warm weather.
Church activities have been on zoom, but for some reason it cuts me out every other 20 seconds. Fb Messenger is pretty good from my end- but everyone else seems to meet on zoom. I feel left out when that happens. I texted the others to fill me in on what i missed, but they havent done that so far with the small prayer group that I am in. Trying not to feel bad, i know they are busy too. just venting to you about my hurt feelings.
I'm OK and my family is too - no complaints. H A P P Y B I R T H D A Y - you should google "first birthday , quarantine" i think. It comes right up and it is hilarous. a young couple trying to make the little one's first birthday the BEST EVER! Never mind that the kid cties the whole time like ones usually do anyway. so funny.
the kid cries.
Hello! I had a great birthday! My husband kept the baby goat quiet so I could sleep in. I had a nice leisurely morning, then I spent part of the afternoon baking a cake. I really enjoyed the baking, and the eating, of the cake! My younger son and his wife surprised me with a driveby birthday present. They put it on the sidewalk and got back in the car so I could come out and get it. They attached Ferrero Rocher candies all over a bottle of champagne and then make leaves from green paper so the whole thing looks like a pineapple. Super cute! One sister sent a pound box of chocolates, so I have been eating cake and candy nonstop alllll week. My other sister sent a box from wine.com with 9 bottles!
My husband gave me several very thoughtful presents, including a new digital camera. I love my old one and take lots of pictures on my hikes etc. About a year ago it got dropped in sand and there is some stuck in the lens mechanism so it often shuts down when I zoom. I like the camera because it's little and can fit in my pocket so I have it handy on my walks. He got me the current version of my old one, and I love it! I also played online games with my sons so we did an activity "together" that evening. All in all, a VERY nice day.
Some of my seeds have sprouted, and the squash are big enough that I think I can transplant them soon. Some tomatoes are getting there. All my herbs are still tiny. Several things didn't sprout at all so I think I will replant. My perennials have come back strong - I also have a giant lemon balm and lots of mint.
I am glad work has not been too bad for you lately. I remain in awe of people working with sick patients during this pandemic. You guys are so brave and wonderful! I think you will get to kayak and walk this summer. As you said, they are outdoors and not crowded activities. I want to get to some state parks this summer to continue my Trail Quest. There are a couple left that I could reach on a long day trip.
I get my hair cut usually once a year or maybe twice, and mostly my sister or my husband does it. My sister just did mine in March so I'm good on that front anyway!
Our YMCA is doing virtual personal training, so I've been doing my half hours with my trainer that way and she uses zoom too. I am having problems with my camera and it's annoying. I'm not used to using a camera for anything on the computer. I am sorry to hear your prayer group is not letting you know what you missed! That seems like the sort of group that should have kind people in it. I hope somebody will start filling you in!
I found that video of the little kid. That is so funny! I am glad to report that I did not cry on my quarantine birthday!
Hello friend! I hope your week has been good, and work has not been too bad!
This week I transplanted 5 yellow squash, 5 zucchini, 6 zebra tomatoes, and 3 cherry tomatoes. I had dumped my compost onto one of my garden areas where the tomatoes were going, and when I went to plant the tomatoes, I found 2 volunteer tomato plants. There were also 5 or 6 plants that looks squash-like so I've left them there to see what they turn into. If these all live and produce, I will be swimming in squash and tomatoes! Given my track record though, probably not!
Today I went to the state park near me for the first time since March. I had driven past 3 times and there were over 50 cars so I kept on going to the rail trail. I've also walked twice at a state park a little farther away. Today I went to the closer park mid-morning instead of the afternoon, and there were only about 10 cars. I got a very nice 5 mile walk in the woods and passed only 3 other hikers. It was super humid and I was dripping but I loved it!
Tomorrow my 3 baby goats are going to their new home. It will be a bit of a wrench to lose the little girl that I've bottle fed, but it's time. I will start milking the mama of the twin boys twice a day, so that will keep me busy and distracted. With only one goat in milk, instead of 3 like I expected, I'm not sure how much cheese I can make, but at least we will have some tasty fresh milk. My baby chicks have been sleeping outside for most of the week. I've lost one already, but I have 15 left.
Not much other news from here for now! I hope you are well and happy!
@SadMe70
Wow- so much news from down on the Farm! I think you are blessed in a way with the shutdown to have a lot of outside activities with the animals and planting to stay busy in a good way. I didn't try squash and only have a couple of tomatoes. I didn't have much luck with them last time; probably because I didn't fertilize or do anything extra. We don't compoast either, but i could... Only so much time to put into it. But the rain sprouted up everything I did plant like crazy. I do love the fresh vegetables and there are several farm stands walking distance so I'll get them soon.
I get it that you were sad to let the baby goats go - but I guess you have to do that as a part of the farming process. So now you have a lot of milk - so its one thing or another. Something good comes from it either way. You can be happy at how much joy they bring to other families ( unless they eat them).I think you told me you don't raise them for meat- is that right? My country grandmother had to kill a chicken and cook it every Saturday; i don't know how she did that. My "in town" grandma went to the Pigly Wiggly.
I'm so glad you had a nice birthday. I could see all the love from your family with thoughtful and delicious gifts, I know you will enjoy your camera too. The hikes are so good for us . We just have to find times and days and places not too crowded. Fiance and i went to a wildlife area park that is mostly for hunting and fishing a couple of weeks ago. It was on a lake and very wooded and pretty. But we werent very prepared - we both got a tick and bug bites. I think it is going to be a big tick season if we keep getting rain and damp trails - We will do better next time.
My prayer group did put out a prayer for the whole community the next day. It was composed by one member of our small group. The leader didn't ask for input- she just sent it out from all of us. The girl who wrote it was very humble and didn't ask that it be atributed to her. It was beautiful and I wrote a note telling her that, and that i miss her smile. She wrote back and thanked me. I didn't really need any consoling, just a vent which you always accept for what it is - just feelings. Spiritual groups are just ordinary people too - we make mistakes and I know there was no bad intent on anyone's part not getting back to me. Everyone has a lot on their shoulders. I don't know when that group will be physically together, but not for a while.
We are getting more positive patients in the hospital. 3 coworkers from a sister hospital got it from work - one is in ICU. I know him very well and it is sobering when we are all facing the unknown every shift. Numbers are still climbing in VA and I'm not starting back in person piano lessons until it drops. I am playing myself more in the evening and it is rewarding and relaxing. My other little girl is doing well with her virtual lesson - but she is pretty smart with technology. Any word on your work in the Fall? Not rushing it of course! Enjoy this nice weather and the break from school- you have plenty to do anyway my friend. Till next time.
Hello! I am definitely blessed to have space to get outdoors! My baby goats are settling in at their new home. I got two pictures from my friend who took all three. I have sold a couple for meat and ate two ourselves that a friend raised for us and took to the butcher, but it's not my first choice. I prefer to sell them as pets. My chicks are sleeping outside now, in a cage within the coop. I lost one already, that got out from the chain link run and then probably got near the outer fence, but I have 14 left. I had only intended to buy 10, so I guess I'm 4 ahead!
I think I told you that I planted tomatoes, squash, and zucchini. This week I am starting to transplant my other smaller plants. I have several kinds of herbs coming up. They are tiny but I am ready to get them in the ground. I have lots of weeding to do, again, in areas I have weeded several times already before I can put them in. I did one area today and got a few in the ground. I also finally have 1 okra seedling, from about 20 planted seeds of 2 types of okra, and I need to get that in the ground.
Earlier this week I bought a permit for the VA Dept of Game and Inland Fisheries Wildlife Management Areas. There is one in my county that I just found out about earlier this year that has hiking. I can't find a map so I don't know if much is there, but I'm going to try it out. There are 4 more areas in Caroline County that I might try after that.
I hope you are keeping safe with this new wave of craziness going on, and meanwhile still keeping safe from the virus. It's a lot to deal with these days. I hope that your friend from the other hospital is ok. I am glad your prayer group sent such a nice prayer and that you had a good interaction with another member. You know that you can always vent here, as I know I can do also! We both need it!!
Good for you for playing your piano more! That sounds like just the kind of thing to do at this time; making music is always a beautiful thing. Enjoy it!!
Our school district did distribute contracts this week! No raises which is fine since I seem to still have a job! It is contingent on sufficient funding, but that is always the case. No word on what they will actually do come August 3 when we are supposed to start. I sort of hope we just go back as normal. All these crazy half days, alternating days, etc etc plans seem impossible to implement and I don't see that they will really do that much good. At least not with germy elementary kids.
Today I made my first cheese of the season. I have 3 small wheels of brie going. It took a while to save up the milk since I have one goat in milk instead of the expected three. Now saving up for the next cheese. I might try a new one.
Stay safe my friend. I'm thinking of you!
It must be a noisy, busy barnyard now with 14 chicks and goats too. I think it would be so calming just hanging around. looking forward to some wonderful farm eggs for sure. I make sure to get them anyway i can - they taste so much better. Have fun with weeding and planting. My herbs and peppers and eggplant are mostly in raised planters- but the lemon balm and lavendar are in the ground near the front door. I hear the balm repels mosquitoes and the lavendar i planted last year is blooming nicely.
Rachael's Dad gave me 3 quarts of berries from the farm so i was compelled to make my strawberry ,pepper,mint jam. It turned out fine and I took some to work and have some jars ready to mail to my family. One of the Ed docs loves it - he eats it with a spoon out of the jar. I have made it enough that Ive gotten pretty handy with the process. I wouldn't do it with store bought berries, but the fresh picked ones were irrestible. i know your cheese will be delish!
I know you are relieved to get your school contract. It will work out one way or another I'm sure. Enjoy your last days off.
I'm just now listening to NPR interviewing the mayor of Richmond about removing the statues following nights of protests ect. The Robert E Lee one is 2 blocks from my hospital. We didn't get anyone hurt from the violence but I saw the debased statues driving down Monument Avenue later - it was shocking to see the grafitti and especially the F--- painted all over town.. The mayor and the governor are doing their best to change what can be changed and bring back some peace. Most of the protests now seem to be peaceful. It is just not smart to be in crowds right now.
We all have to take it one day at a time. Nothing can separate us from the love of God.
Hello! I finally finished transplanting my seedlings. I plan to try and train some of my squash vertically up tripods that I made from bamboo. I never tried that before, so I am hoping it will work because there are too many plants for them all to grow on the ground! I also need to make something to support my tomatoes, probably more bamboo tripods because I have a ton of bamboo. Every time I look at any one of my beds, it's been taken back over by weeds too, so there is plenty to do in the garden. When I transplanted, I put in additional seeds of anything that did not sprout for me at all (parsley, lavender) or where I got only one or two plants (okra and some herbs). Hoping some come up! How is your garden going?
I made brie this week, and last night got started on a cheese called belper knolle that is based on a chevre cheese that gets rolled into balls with salt, garlic, and pepper. I ordered a new culture to try a cheese that I haven't made before. It's similar to cheddar but you soak some spices in part of the milk.
Your jam sounds so delicious! I'm sure everyone who gets some will love it. There is nothing like homemade jam! I am with the ER doc. My friend used to sell jams at the farmers' market and they had such complex delicious flavors that were lost in a PBJ, so I just ate it from the jar with a spoon too!
I am sickened by the defacing of statues. People are turning into barbarians. If they consider them symbols of hate, then let them be peaceably removed by the city and state. Angry hateful mobs defacing art, to me gives no creedence to anything they say. They just want to destroy. As for protests in general, to me even a peaceful one really doesn't do anything, and increasingly they just provide a venue for violent people to horn in and cause mayhem. I have friends who went to protests peacefully, but had to post pictures of themselves on FB to show what good people they are, which again makes me question the purity of their motives. One friend even did that and then changed her profile picture on FB to one with a frame about covid saying "Stay safe, stay home." What?? You just went out needlessly to be in a crowd full of many people without masks, accomplishing nothing but helping spread the virus. I don't get people. I am staying here with my goats and chickens!!
I hope you are well and safe!
@SadMe70
We think alike- you and me. The peaceful protests were necessary for change to begin like in the 60s i think. But now, the horrible actions of a few policemen prompt people to march and accomplish nothing to change that for the future. I have heard of positive intiatives that combine social work with police calls that actually work. There are ways to make improvements, but marching and yelling and spreading disease isn't one of them. And like you said - the profanity sprayed all over town makes me sick to call Richmond a great city.I never imagined I'd see anything like it. It seemed kind of silly to start a fire and pull the Christopher Columbus statue down and throw it in the "lake" which is a dug out pond really. He had some bad behaviour too, but nothing to do with confederate generals or the incident with Mr. Gray. These protests and riots don't correlate with the real problems of inequity in the country. I saw this coming though when the lockdown began - low income city residents with no jobs or recreation and the weather getting hot - a recipe for trouble right there.I think the mayor and governor are doing the best they can. There is going to be a 5000 man march 2 blocks from the hospital tomorrow so I may have to get to work early with streets closed. I wonder where they will go when all the statues are gone? like you, I hate it when anyone's artwork is destroyed. There are musums to keep them with appropriate commentary, I think.
On a brighter note - the cheese sounds divine. I hope it turns out like you plan. My jam is already been passed out to friends. If I get more farm berries i may make more. I love all kinds of squash too. I got some last week and pan seared it. My mom used to slice it and batter dip and deep fry it piece by piece - it never made it to the table with 4 mouths of me and my sisters open - like little birds. I planted several kinds of peppers and eggpant - but so far they are just blooming and growing TALL. With the sun and water hose , every thing is growing great - the chives,mint and lavendar are beautiful. My gardenia bloomed too last week. It was a birthday gift from fiance and it went in the ground last year after potted and garaged the year before. It makes me happy and smells so good.
Is everything going OK with your sons and family? Sisters and I are going to try a video call sunday. My samsung cuts off Zoom, like I told you - but Fb Messenger and some ohers work fine so I'm hopeful. We wont be getting together anytime soon so we may as well figure some way to chat and see each other now as ever. As always, good to keep in touch with you.
Hello! I am very late with my post this weekend. Somehow, without even leaving the house, I was so busy the weekend flew by.
Yesterday I spent part of the afternoon playing online Dungeons and Dragons with my older son and 3 of his friends. My son has gotten into it in the past year and is learning to be a dungeon master. I never played it before, but he offered to set up a starter game for me to play online during the quarantine and I figured why not. We finished the first one and yesterday started a second one. The character he created for me is Xena. I used to watch that show a little when it was on TV so I was happy with that. I don't know that I would continue playing later, but it has been a good way to interact with people every few weeks while I'm at home all this time.
I am not comfortable going out places yet, so we had not planned to see our kids for Father's Day, but my younger son and his wife dropped by with a Korean meal prepped in a frying pan (meat, veggies, rice balls, mushrooms) and we just have to cook it when we are ready for dinner. It was such a very sweet thought. My daughter-in-law, who is very artistic, also drew a picture of us both from photos and put it on FB. It's really nice too.
My husband has been wanting to sight in a scope on a .22 rifle he has, so we finally went outside in the woods behind the house and worked on that. We used to go shooting together a lot maybe 10 years ago at a range we belong to here, and I really enjoy the target practice. I have gotten very rusty and therefore less comfortable handling the firearms. I shot a pistol that is mine and was awkward and a really bad shot with it, when I used to be confident and a fair shot. I think we will practice a little more this summer and get me back up to par.
I hope things did not get out of hand with the march down there last weekend. Yesterday there was a BLM group here that met up in our Walmart parking lot and planned to do a slow (25 mph) roll through a bunch of small towns with 2 lane roads and end up in Tappahannock. I feel like this is another way to be obnoxious and not win people to your cause.
I did make my big spice infused cheese on Friday. Ginger, cardamom, and crushed junipers infused in a quart of the milk for 45 minutes before adding it to the rest of the milk. I didn't taste much in the milk so I'm not sure how much flavor will get into the cheese, but even if it doesn't taste like the spices, I'll enjoy the cheese. I have a few more steps over the next week and then it goes in my "cave" to age.
he squash plants growing out of where I dumped my compost are looking amazing. I see one blossom so far and the plants are big and robust. The ones I planted are straggling along. I now see more plants coming up that look like beans. Maybe I won't plant next year and will just dump compost all around!!
I am very excited that our blueberry bushes are producing really well this year. I took out a cereal bowl one day and filled it to heaping. Yesterday I got 2 bowls, and one more bowl today. Not bad considering we got less than a bowl all of last season.
How is your garden doing? The pan seared squash and the batter fried squash both sound amazing! If all my plants produce, I'll be looking for lots of ways to prepare it! I did not do peppers and eggplant this year. I hope your blooms have started turning into veggies! I love gardenias! That is one of my favorite scents for lotions too. I bet that is beautiful!
My sons and other family are all doing fine so far. My older son now goes into his office once a week. My sisters are planning a picnic with mom where they will all meet at a state park and bring their own food, and sit distanced from each other. That way they can at least visit in person without getting near mom or sharing food. I would love to do that with her if I can figure a place that I can go for just a day trip, that she can also drive to. My son and his wife said today that after today they are not going out anywhere for 2 weeks and then going to see my mom on July 4 weekend. I hope they are able to stay in and be safe so they don't put her at risk. I'm a little worried about the idea, but it is a really nice thing if they pull it off safely.
Hoping you are well!
@SadMe70
Yes, its a different world for celebrations and "get togethers". It sounds like you and DIL are getting along just fine. That was nice to bring a ready to cook meal and making a picture is special. i can;t draw a straight line - but i can write pretty well and of course the musical gene is what I excell the most. I miss making music in a group - either instruents or singing, but not available now even if i had the time. I'm still enjoying my one lesson and playing the piano. Lifesavers.
Your compost garden sounds like a good idea. My plants are growing tall, but just a few peppers so far, along with all the herbs. I hope the cheese is what you want .. tha is a nice thing to share with family too. I have one jar of jam left to give away and some in the frig. so many reasons to love summer. fiances birthday is next week, but i don't know what we will do. He has a lot of clean up work in the yard and basement and i told him we couldn't go sailing until... but a half day kayak might be soimething on a smaller scale.
I thought about you today and how much you loved special times with your Dad. do you have the drambui on Fathers Day too or just birthday? My girls spent the day with their Dad, and I worked 3 to 11 today so my coworker could spend the day with his girls.T he hospital is getting bck to a more normal busy, and we are still getting COVID patients in. The protests down the street are ongoing and I don't know what will be the outcome. some of the statues have already been torn down and all the others vandalized. It makes no sense to me what that is supposed to accomplish.. The governor already said he wants them in a museum; but not if they tear them up and burn them. I grew up on a tobacco farm in N.C and I lived through the terrible abuse they suffered - so I get it.. but I'd like to see positive action and I'd gladly join that effort.
I pray all of your family stays well and that you find the peace and happiness in the barnyard - at least THEY all get along!
Hello! I understand about missing playing music with a group. Band was my absolute favorite thing in school, but I haven't played with a group since high school. I grumble about our annual family Christmas "concert," but once we actually start playing, it's fun. I am glad you are still able to keep a student! I am sure that is a nice highlight to your week!
I have blossoms on several squash plants! The compost squash are the biggest, healthiest looking plants I think I've ever had! The leaves are about 3 times the size of my hand. They are beautiful to look at.
Did you go kayaking? Mine are sitting on the trailer in my yard. I went once last year with my son and we rented some from the outfitters who dropped us off and picked us up. I miss vacations with our kids where we could do stuff like that together!
How sweet of you to remember our tradition for Dad! I actually did not toast him on Father's Day. I was trying to make it nice for my husband since we are stuck here together, and I didn't even think of it. Usually I do his birthday and his death day.
Our schools sent out parent and staff surveys this week. The surveys are open until this coming week, and then they have until July 24 to make and submit a plan to the state. I go back to work August 3, and the kids August 10, so they don't have a lot of time to implement whatever they come up with. I don't envy them. They are going to put in tremendous effort and everyone will still be unhappy with it. The state's guiding report does not mandate masks for adults in the building, so my fear is that a lot of our staff won't wear them, and after all my careful isolation I will pick it up anyway. I have a cloth mask with a filter, but I just bought one with a clear window at the mouth on Etsy. I thought that seeing my mouth would be less scary for little ones and also easier for them to understand me. It came yesterday and it's cute but not as tight a fit as my other mask, and no filter since the window is there. I am a glasses wearer, so I already wear them far down my nose to keep from fogging with a mask. The clear window on the new one fogs every time I breathe, so I'm not sure which one is going to be best. I'll just try both and see when the time comes!
Things are muddy but well in the barnyard! I am thinking of trying to make a perch out of bamboo for the chickens today. I am not handy at all, but with all those new chicks, I have more birds than perch room.
Have a wonderful week!
@SadMe70
No kayacking or outings really at all so far. That one time we walked in the woods we both got ticks, so I'm not crazy about that idea either especially with the rain we have had. Rahael and i are taking our morning walks and up till now her afternoon agengy persn has taken her out in the afternoon. but that will end this week - she has some weird behaviors and i'm a little tired of trying to explain why she shouldn't do strange things - like ride in the car with Rachael and little kittens roaming aroud the seat -just one example. But there are other options that we can do. Libraries are opening up and I think we can get in the outdoor pool for aerobics classes and pretend" to join in. They also let you scedule lap lanes, but no waterpark. Cooling off in the afternoon would be nice when it gets really hot in July.
I'm glad your compost plants are thriving. The things i planted are growing like crazy - eggplants coming up to size now and peppers. I'm going to make some peach jam with the mint like I did the strawberry before.
So sorry school and masks are such a hassle. The good thing about my shifts is I'm working alone mostly so I slide the mask down if I'm not around a patient. Sound like you are protecting yourself and doing th best you can. I saw all kinds of creative masks now that is another " thing". The unrerst over the monuments has not stopped. They should just take them all down and put them in museums and make fountains. And the street names and the military bases and so on and so on- its stupid.
The perch fot the chicks sounds like a fun project. Fiance rescued a injured bird that the cat probably got hold of and we made an indoor hutch for a week, then put "her" outside in a wired enclosure, and then she flew off after 10 days YEA!. He saw her come back later and got a pic of her perched on the porch rail. Flying loioks a little shaky, but she seems to be makimg it. Our cat plus more in the neighborhood - just what they do.
I have the rest of tonight to work then off. It has gote busier and i have a patient now so signing off. Stay cool!
Hello,
Sorry to hear the agency person is not working out! I can't imagine how hard it is to go through having to find someone over and over. Our library has opened up there as well. I am still using the curbside service, which has been fantastic all through this! I love to read. The Y has opened the pool for scheduled lap lanes too, and the gym for 1 hour scheduled visits. I will probably start going back when I go back to school. Our school board has a virtual meeting Monday to talk about the reopening plan and staff are all supposed to watch. We got a few clues in an email from the superintendent, but apparently will get more details on Monday.
It has been crazy hot lately! I spend about half of the day sweating, but I like feeling like I'm doing something! We got even more blueberries this week. No veggies yet, but a lot of squash blooms, so maybe soon. No tomato blooms yet but the plants are growing. My one okra plant is hanging in there!
My mom has been haranguing me to come visit her so I'm finally giving in. I will go Thursday to Saturday. A boy who helps my husband do outside work will milk the goats on Friday (he has goats and knows how to do it), and my younger son will do it Saturday (having a wife has made him more helpful than he used to be!). I am not comfortable with the whole plan. I'd rather stay home, but she really wanted me to come. Today my mom, my son and his wife, both my sisters, and my brother-in-law are together at my sister's house. All of them except for me have been going out places and now I will get exposed to whatever they might give mom. I feel like the little old lady of the bunch, but I really don't want to get sick so I'd rather isolate until I go back to work!
My husband helped me make the perch so it's out in the coop now. So cool that you guys rehabbed that bird! Hopefully it continued to get stronger. I've lost 3 of my 16 chicks. They went out through the fence and my dog or our cats killed them. As you said, it's what they do. I spent a day tie-wrapping plastic fencing to the front fence of my pen, which is a different fencing than the rest of the enclosure, and had holes big enough for them to get out. Hopefully no more will get out!
Today I baked chocolate chip cookies, which we had along with glasses of fresh goat milk. They were soooo good. I have been pretty good overall since I've been home, but it was time for some baking! I made a quiche the other day, using veggies that I froze last summer. That was really good too, and at least had some veggies in it to counteract the cheese, cream, and pie crust!
Today I saw a video clip of a Robert Downey, Jr interview, during which he talked about his 50th birthday a few years ago, at which Duran Duran and Steely Dan played! I want to know where Duran Duran was during MY 50th birthday back in May!!
I hope you have had a great week!
@
Eventful week! This was our first week without th afternoon caregiver for Rachael, but she didn't seem to mind too much. I do plan to look into other options for her to get out some safely next week.I was cooking dinner and turned on the TV in time to see them loading up the statue on Monument avenue to take down. Big crowd, and it started raining and a t-storm. The weather guy was saying to PLEASE get off that platform with lightning strikes a mile away - but they were determined. Some of the anger, I just dont get it. I have a pring of the Maury statue they took down the next day.(good thing) He was famous for so much more than his role in the confederacy. Now there are just spray painted ugly pedastals.
Since its Saturday, I guess you are already at your mom's house with sisters. I hope that goes OK. It sounds like help with the animals was at least willing hands! I know how you feel though. My sister is coming from FL ( The villages) 2 weeks from now to Norfolk to see her daughter and it is close enough that we always come for a lunch when they come that close. BUT - Florida is having a terrible time with rising numbers and that Retirement megapolis is full of crazy old people. Add to that, I work at a hospital with constant possible exposure - any one of us could carry and transmit unknowingly. I will wear a mask and stay apart anyway.
My plants are growing tall with all the sun and rain - it looks like a mini forest. but only one eggplant and a few peppers. I do want to make some more jam, but the peaches I got sat out too long and mostly rotted. I love blueberries, but I don't have any planted. I cook most days too, and I'm proud to say I've stuck with my minimized wine drinking.Exercise is good too - I pull up a online 30 minute HITT workout most evenings on top of the 90 minute walk in the AM. The quiche sounds wonderful - I love it too with any vegetable you can pile in the filling.
We saw the bird a few times after it first flew out but now it seems to have gone away. Fiance gave a stern lecture to his cat ... sometimes I think he thinks the cat really understands him. It was very warm and sunny and the birds were out singing , and the cicadas - I love summer. We took a canoe out for about an hour to test it for leaks; late in the adternoon Thursday and there were 23 trailers/ trucks in the lot at 7:45 so still in the water were.. ,a lot of boats. People that arent traveling for the 4th want to get on the river, and I would too. I'm finishing up my shift and there were fireworks, but I didn't go outside like I sometimes do, go up on the parking deck - just not motivated I guess. I'll say a prayer for a safe and happy visit for you and the family.
@MusicCandy
