Which is healthier, vegan or vegetarian?
I came across a documentary where people who had cancer switched to a vegetarian diet and became healthy, sounds a little bit of a miracle to me, but maybe it is true? However it made me question, which one is generaly healthier between vegans and vegetarians?
@Ladypearl
Well...to say that any diet is a one size fits all, would be untrue. However, I'd say with proper knowledge and a willingness to make healthy choices, veganism is an extremely healthy diet and dare I say, superior (health wise, environmentally, "cruelty-free")? The problem is, you can definitely run into nutritional shortfalls like vitamin deficiencies if you aren't equipped with the proper knowledge. So to say that all vegans/vegetarians are healthy is not true (then again the same could be said for some meat eaters too), but it's definitely something to speak with a nutritionist about if interested! Vegetarianism is also very healthy but some people have issues with dairy, so veganism is sometimes the better option then.
As far as the cancer cure claims, I wouldn't pay too much heed to them, besides minimizing the risk of developing them (which that it itself to me, is worth it). However, no diet can cure cancer.
It depends on the individual, some people have health conditions/allergies that would make it pretty much impossible to be healthy from such diets (since they would be allergic to the substitutes).
