Group Mod Role: Duties and Expectations
The aim of the moderator is not to control the room, but rather to guide it and keep the chat flowing in a positive way. It is important that you engage in conversation and offer support and encouragement to participants, as well as policing the rules.
✪ A group moderator should have high warmth and high expectations. ✪
As a moderator, you have three main duties:
➀ Welcoming and inviting newcomers to join in
➁ Engaging with and guiding the conversation
      ➂ Supervising and enforcing rules

You will be successful in this role if you:
✓ are aware of newcomers entering the chat room and take care to be welcoming and inclusive to everyone
✓ show warmth, kindness and support to guests and members
✓ keep the conversation moving forward and ask thoughtful questions
✓ maintain a high level of professionalism at all times
✓ are familiar with the chat room rules and community guidelines
✓ know how to calmly and respectfully set boundaries and enforce the rules when necessary
✓ pay attention to the flow of the chat room and who is participating in conversations, and work to actively adjust the flow to different individuals who are present

You will not be successful in this role if you:
✗ abuse your power by threatening members, deleting or muting inappropriately
✗ show favouritism or give certain members preferential treatment over others
✗ disagree with other moderators decisions publically in the support room
✗ engage in any chat room drama
✗ fail to actively participate and guide the conversation
Always remember...with great power comes great responsibility ツ

Also! Is it possible to get the suicide hotline number listed under the chatroom rules like in the teen listener room??
This was most definitely needed, thanks Heather!
I agree with you on this one Heather. We as group mods should be there for support also.I seen some moderators who don't even engage in the chat which makes me sad because we are not robots...We are listeners there for support also. :) Team work!
So to participate in the group, we go on the tab next to one and one and guide the conversation correct?
@peacefulBeauty57
As a Listener in the chatroom, your role is to help moderators greet members and make sure that no member feels ignored. Moderators focus on enforcing rules. The conversation is usually left up to the members present, at times, moderators or listeners will step in to change a topic if it's inappropriate or diverting from the purpose of the chatroom.Heather explains the role of a listener in greater details in this forum post. Thank you for helping us moderators in the chatrooms !
Thanks for posting, Heather!
Thank you for this! <3
Can I get a little clarification on the medications rule? I know we cannot let a member say "I tried Prozac and you should too!" but what if a member simply says, "I am on Prozac"?
Hi, @HellenHopes! Usually if someone says, "I am on Prozac" that will make other people ask about it and then a conversation is started about it. It can be really hard for people for reasons like addiction. Also, we need to make sure that no one is suggesting a medication for other's safety.
As a general rule, don't allow it. Sometimes it can be okay (if they say "I am on Prozac" and no conversation ensues about its uses and helpfulness), but to make it easier and more clear, we can't allow it.
This is great. Thanks for all the reminders.
Final question - or maybe not, depending :oP - But can I get some clarification on how mods should act in regards to censors? I could have sworn I saw an admin say the other day that if the word is censored in our system, the moderators do not have to say "Please watch the language." They should reserve that for times when the word isn't censored or the member is trying to get around the censor. But I just wanted to confirm :o)
Thank you!
very useful information. I just hope I could find it earlier.
