Disordered Athletes?
A lot of competitors can push their bodies through intense physical pain with sports, exercise and injury - but mental pain will stop them in their tracks.
I have been curious the past few months on available resources for athletes with depression or other metal disorders. How is it that athletes cope, stay strong, and stay competitive when they are having a negative internaldialogue? How do they interact with non-disordered peers? What outlets to they have in teammates and coaches and what kinds of things do they say to themselves to keep pushing forwards? Also, what can coaches say to help afflicted athletes heal? How can they be as mentally strong as theyare physically strong?
Thanks for reading and posting y'all!
It's not easy. Not in the slightest. I stopped dead still in the middle of a race the other day. I then proceeded to cry for several hours. It can be crippling alot of the time. And it sucks.
