Overthinking

MarP October 28th, 2022

Penny for your thoughts. Wanted to throw something out there that’s been bugging me to see if anyone can relate. Here it is: I second myself so much at times that it gets to the point where I think everything I do is a mistake and hardly get anything done. I talk myself out of a lot of things when I really should have trusted my initial instinct all along. Overthinking is my kryptonite. I feel like it makes me look so stupid and indecisive. I feel like I’m the mistake. Can anyone else relate and have tips to overcome this? Any insight is appreciated. Thanks. Be well friends.

Dear Marp,

First of all, I am sorry to hear about your struggle.

Secondly, Overthinking is truly a troll on the mind. However, not something we can't moderate. Here is below some tips, helped me personally in dealing with overthinking:

One and most importantly never fight your thoughts, it will only worsen the situation. (Accept your thoughts).

E.g., (it could be a mistake and I am fine with that, I am only a human at the end of day)

Second use mockery technique, for every thoughts that seems to overcome your mind, try to mock it (try to Mock the Idea) till it reach to a point, where is it silly. (BULLY THE IDEA AND BE A COMEDIAN)

E.g., (Oh silly mind, won't you stop being melodramatic)

Third use the SO WHAT? technique, rather than fighting the thoughs, do the opposite, keep asking a series of (So what?) till you find that it does has an end.

E.g., (ok so this is a mistake so what ?, It will cause some issues, so what? I will be delyed, so what?)

Sincerely,

A helping friend
