New member apprehension...
So I am new to 7 cups of tea and I am happy to have found it, however I am uncertain of where to begin. I know I need someone to talk to but I am finding myself sitting on the sidelines and watching the group chat. Does anyone else have this uneasy, unsure feeling? How do you suggest... how someone can get past that?
Hi, if you are finding group chat hard maybe try one on one
I know that is a good way to use this forum. One on one chat, yet I myself feel nervous to speak. For me it feels like the first day of school where the teacher asks you to stand up and introduce yourself. Perhaps that feeling when you do meet a counselor/doctor for the first time. Awkward. I am not sure of what I want to share. Or who to choose.
Hi @Pinkponyg3
The sort of anxiety that you're writing of isn't all of that uncommon here to be honest. Back in my pre-listener days, I would commonly be nervous prior to those first few chats. I found that it was something that eased with time for me.
With regards to choosing a listener, there's no real science to it and when you do get into chatting, you don't need to open up straight away with what is on your mind. As a listener, many of my chats have started with a casual chat while the member has checked whether they feel comfortable with me. That is 100% a-okay. You are in control :)
What I would recommend is that if you're a little bit unsure of what to share and you are a little bit nervous to browse for a more experienced listener with a good star rating if you can. It's easier for less experienced listeners to push along a 1-on-1 but as you're nervous, an experienced listener is a good pick for going along at your pace.
Regardless, I wish you the best of luck in finding a listener that meets your needs. Just like in offline life, not everybody is the right fit for you but I'm sure the right listener for you is out there :)
I too am new to 7 cups. I went through several 1 on 1 chats with listeners. many unproductive. It is important that your words be said. Find a more seasoned listener. You are too important. Keep your direction true. Things will get better. Theres no judgment here. YOUR LIFE IS IMPORTANT. KEEP GOING.
