"Words of Wisdom" for a very unmotivated teen
I have a teen who...
... doesn't want to study.
... doesn't want to exercise.
... doesn't want to do much of anything except play video games.
... doesn't seem to care about any of it.
what witty (or wise) words of wisdom would you share with a very unmotivated teen?
Another way to look at it: If you were once a teen, what would you tell your teenage self to help yourself get through the doldrums of high school life?
If you are now a teen: What words of wisdom do you actually find helpful???

Hi, I am a teen :)
I've never really been super unmotivated for long periods of time, but something I like to say to myself when it feels daunting to get up and do a hard task is that making some progress is better than making no progress at all. Let's say you study for 10 minutes. That's still better than studying for 0 minutes. To me, using numbers like this helps me actually visualize it.Β
And the thing that gets you motivated is goals. Does your teen have any goals? Goals give you a reason to put in the work, no matter how hard it is. You can set goals based on your passions and what you enjoy.Β
Speaking of putting in work...this has happened to me a couple times and every time I was blown away. I've always felt like I'm decent at math but I don't get a super high score every time. So at the end of each unit we have tests. So normally, I only study right before the test but one time, midway through the unit, I decided to study the stuff I learned so far. And on the test, my score was a lot higher than my "average decent not super high score", and I was really surprised. I was like, "when you put in the work, it actually does show! that's so cool!!!"
Hope this is helpful for your teen!

Hello! Fello teen over here. I really understand of not feeling motivated at all. Honestly, the only thing keeping me motivated are friends. But some words they say that make me feel motivated are "You aren't alone"; "You are protected;" and "You ain't leaving without me." Sometimes, they would bribe me with talking about the boring parts of our lives and laugh at how ridiculous life is. They help me keep myself motivated, knowing I could always go to them if I feel bored and unmotivated to do anything.
