Sometimes I think we live in a vicious cycle of attaining our desires.is there anyone who achieves the goal of being satisfied in who they are and what they have?

Hey hey @Siri666 welcome to the community.

I appreciate you sharing that thought, where you're  grappling with the idea of fulfillment and whether true satisfaction is ever attainable. It’s a poignant reflection on how our desires can sometimes feel endless, almost like a neverending race or being on a treadmill haha (which is sooo exhausting).

I think it must be frustrating to feel like satisfaction is always just out of reach, like no matter what we do or how much we do, it is just never enough.

Many people struggle with this cycle of wanting and achieving, only to find that the next desire quickly replaces the last, I believe.

It makes me wonder too,  if there are any moments in life where people find satisfaction, even if it’s fleeting. 😮

Have you come across any examples, perhaps in your own life or through others—where someone seems genuinely content with who they are or what they have? 😮

Honestly, I find this quite thought-provoking, and have a few cents to share. :D

I feel, it's not a blackNwhite picture here, not an easy yes/ no kinda question, at least for me.

Desires, dreams, wants, goals, targets, to-do lists, vision boards etc are all such great ways to find or create something to look-forward to in life.

I think while it's vital to embrace ourselves in the here and now, it's also important to have something to look forward to, in life. And with that, I do not mean to be trapped in the vicious cycle of hustling to get somewhere or reach a certain destination in our life's journey, but I feel, we can find things that are of value to us, that make us feel content, it could be as simple as wanting to look forward to a sunset or catching up with a friend. Like what makes us feel satisfied and content in life is unique to us, and it would be great to have the maximum autonomy in deciding what it feels like to be successful or happy or satisfied or content to us!💛

Thoughts?

Ya,,you are right.it is not an easy yes/no question. And as you said little things like wanting to catch up with friends and seeing the next sun rise are quite the sauces in our life to make it more desirable. ☀️

But there are some desires which are strong and which doesn't make you feel worthwhile unless you have it or got it.maybe achieving it won't add anything in your life but the very idea of not capable of having it will cripple you in life.

In my life, I never got a chance to meet someone who is satisfied in their life.everybody is in a frenzy to have more,to be more. But I think,at the end of the day,if we are not happy in who we are and what we are right now,we will never be.it also contributes a great deal for our emotional health.

The ability to accept who we are will lead the way to live a life we want paradoxically. 💞💛

Yeah, for some, life can feel like a repetitive cycle of pursuing ones desires. It’s not uncommon for people to struggle with feelings of dissatisfaction with themselves and life. Is satisfaction achievable? I would say it has a lot to do with how you choose to think and perceive the world, your circumstances, and yourself. It also depends on what satisfaction means to the individual. If you view life through a mostly positive lens, understand that life is a journey with ups and downs, and choose to be happy with what you have while work for what you want. Then I would say feelings of satisfaction are possible.

Hi Siri! 😊 ❤️

Thank you so very much for your forum post and for your incredibly thought provoking question!

Succinctly, my answer would be yes! Being satisfied and even happy in who one is and what one has is a possibility for some. I'm not someone that is "caught in a viscous cycle of attaining desires". I leave that to others. I still am passionate about things, I still set goals for myself, goal achievement feels good to me. I enjoy learning something new every day. I believe in self betterment. I see myself as a work in progress and always will be. And so, that is some of my joy as happiness is a journey and not a destination.

For me though, the only person that I compete against is me and my last greatest victory. This certainly can have a way of simplifying ones life. My metrics may be vastly different than others and they only should apply to me. I can be happy for others and what it is that they have. There is much to be said about being happy about what one currently has than consistently reaching for more.

While no one deposited the "truth scrolls" with me, part of being satisfied with ones self can be knowing who it is that they are at their core and what they believe in. Lacking a sense of self is to chase after every little thing, change ones mind constantly, never be at peace. Knowing ones personal values, belief system, ensuring that their moral compass is not broken helps with forming self esteem and of course, is part of self awareness. When questioning things...one comes right back to "home base". Ahhh, that was easy when faced with challenges. One can always then "check in with self".

I guess in ones journey one can question if they are chasing their own desires or the desires of others around them comparatively speaking? What is it that one is chasing? Is it to "keep up with the Joneses", to be flashy, to out do the next guy? They have that car so now I must. Their house is that big so I should have one too?

I wonder at what cost/toll those things really take on others? They may look very happy on their social media pages in an effort to be quite braggadocios about their home, cars, or vacations. Are they though? What we might not see is children crying prior to those pictures taken before hand that someone is making them pose again with a smile on their face. These people might be at work all of the time to pay for junk while neglecting their children, spouse, family members, friends, community, etc. One has to wonder why it is that someone is so devoid of character that they can't simply enjoy a meal, eat food with out taking a picture of it first to show everyone what it is that they can afford? Just for a like or an upvote, to make them feel better about themselves and you feel worse about you.

True human contact is lost and people could end up missing the whole point. I think it was Einstein that said "material things are like mill stones tied around our necks" and it makes sense to me. The more we have, the more we have to insure it which costs more money, clean it, keep up with it, make sure no one tries to take it from us.

I like nice things too. Nothing wrong with that. I live beneath my means, I have my needs met as well as many of my wants. What I think is nice has nothing to do with what someone else thinks is though. Wanting what it is that you already have and appreciating it can be quite lovely.

Most of all, I think having gratitude moments and daily is most helpful to be happy. It can be a great experience to be grateful for food, clean water to drink, shelter, a hot shower, a fluffy pillow and a warm blanket to snuggle under at night for a good nights rest as so many in our world don't have that. It sure is a moment, daily, in humbling ones self and keeping priorities straight. Sometimes it can lead to being even more of a giver also.

For anyone that might be on a journey towards happiness, some concepts to research could be the source of true self esteem (Dr. K from GGHealthyGamer has a good one out there via youtube), self actualization and also loss of the ego. Jay Shetty "Think Like A Monk" is also a good read for anyone that wants a solid start.
