Riddles!

This topic is about short riddles, because not everyone likes to do the larger logical puzzles. If you do like those, then click here.

If you've guessed the riddle, you can immediately post another one yourself. Let's keep it going. yes

I will start with this riddle:

You are walking down a path and reach a fork in the road. At the fork there are two people waiting. They tell you that only one path is safe and you can ask just one of them one question to find out which. The catch is, one will always tell you the truth and the other will always tell you a lie, but you don't know which is which.

What do you ask to find the right path?

@BellasHuman

Ask one of the 2 what the other person would answer to the question what the safe path is. It doesn't matter who you ask it too, either one of them will point you towards the unsafe path. So just take the other path then they tell you to, and you'll be safe smiley

@DarkWolf Not to be a totally nerdy geography buzzkill or anything, but the moon was formed eons after the Earth was, from bits of it post-asteroid crash, and from parts of the exploded asteroid as well. Just sayin'... Philosophically the riddle works, but it is not exactly true. Yet, still fun to think about.

Awesome addition. We both know many riddles have flaws like this, but it's very good of you to bring it up. Especially because this is thinking space, and because this riddle-topic promotes thinking about these kinds of things yes

An Arab sheikh tells his two sons to race their camels to a distant city to see who will inherit his fortune. The one whose camel is slower wins. After wandering aimlessly for days, the brothers ask a wise man for guidance. Upon receiving the advice, they jump on the camels and race to the city as fast as they can.
What did the wise man say to them?

2 replies
floatingonatidalwave March 2nd, 2016

@DarkWolf He told them to switch camels (by switching, the brothers would want to make the other lose by going really fast).

Looking at my face, I'm no more than six.
Look at the rest of me and I'm 21.
You'll see my twin and me in Las Vegas.
Say my name and you'd be uttering a threat.
