Struggling with Empathy

My husband of 2 years has been struggling with serious health issues, in and out of the hospital for a year now. I am having real trouble finding empathy some days. Internally I’m struggling with a growing resentment. I love my husband and he is very appreciative. Theses feelings are just growing and I’m not sure how to handle it.

@Penelee
it is easy to have a loss of empathy after taking on a caregiver role ...
even when you love the person and they are appreciative of your assistance ...... i
think sometimes depending on circumstance we are onboard to take care and help where ever and when ever we can how ever as it stretches on or progress in recovery is slow going or may not be back to where it was... in long term also the patient may be struggling with depression thoughts of what if i do not get better etc ........ when things get hard if you can take a break for YOU

@Penelee
i hope you are better now, caregiving can be challenging, it needs patience, organizing, training, cultivating, and some skills like time management, regulation of emotions, setting boundaries, balancing, practicing compassion and empathy, being kind
taking breaks could help, find some time for self-care too
