After I started reaching out for more support I was suprised at how liitle there was for eating disorders in my community. I live on Vancouver Island, BC and the support groups are mostly in victoria which is only one city on the whole island. Having little access to resources makes it even harder for people to reach out for help. There are a few residential programs throughout the island but many people are either not needing that level of care or the waitlist is too long (I had to look on the mainland for a residential program). The lack of community support has been detrimental to me but I am very thankful for 7 cups because it is so easily accessed. The best way to find resources is to ask your counsellor or use your local crisis line, they are very helpful in finding you support in your area.

Hi Sammie! I'm also from Vancouver Island and I can second all of what you are saying. Victoria seems to be the only place other than the mainland. However; The Looking Glass Foundation based out of Vancouver is an AMAZING foundation and they help people all over Canada, ESPECIALLY the island, with resources that I didn't even know existed. Sadly though, the waitlists are terrible and we really do need more resources here on the island.

It's really important to make a support system that holds you accountable. Because you want to hide your behaviors and thoughts so you need people to call you out on it when you are doing those. But call you out in a nice and supportive way so it needs to be people you trust. There's other ways to make yourself accountable like the recovery road app. If you don't have real life people, there's always 7cups friends here to support you <3
