Best distractions for a binge ?
What are some ways to stop myself when I want to binge ? Or while I am mid binge... any help.
@kh24 - One thing that I find effective is a 'waiting period'. So if I have an urge to do something I know I will regret or shouldn't do, I will tell myself that I have permission to do it, but I have to wait 20 minutes first and I use that 20 minutes to find distraction or focus on something recovery oriented. Sometimes at the end of the time I still really want to do it, but often the urge passes in that time.
Other things I think can be helpful include putting yourself in a situation where it's not possible (e.g., with other people), taking a portion of whatever you're going to eat and moving into a different room so that the rest isn't as accessible, and having things like affirmations or a list of why you want to recover handy to focus on when you need the extra motivation.
Everyone finds something a little different to be what's most effective for them, but hopefully one of these will feel like a good starting place. if you want to talk more, feel free to message me!
