Words for someone with a disability

Kallie112358 April 14th, 2018

Hey everyone

I thought it would be cool to share some words for others in the same boat as us - maybe they are newly diagnosed - maybe they are having a bad today - maybe they struggled a bit more than normal - maybe a friend or family member has just been diagnosed - or maybe they are just looking for answers at the moment going through the testing stages

Any hints, tips, words of encouragement, postive affirmations or anything you else that you think might help drop them in below!

You're not alone, no matter how isolated you may feel. Tap into existing communities, take advantage of the knowledge of those who have come before you, and look for opportunities to learn, negotiate, and empower yourself through disability rights activism. Pick heroes that model what it means to be disabled - disability is not congrous with failture. Disabled people have achieved amazing things throughout history, and while they've had to fight harder than the average able-bodied person, they've continued to advocate for disability to be seen as human variability. It's scary finding out you're in a minority category, but know you're not alone.
