Ego within a depressed person
@safeshoulder2CryOn
Hi, I believe ego in general hinders a person's progress. The same might be applicable in a depressed person's case. This would obstruct them from seeing things clearly, or getting help, or implementing correct advices as they would believe what they know is the truth or the best for themselves.
Upon looking it up online, I found below information helpful:
- Ego gives a global representation of a person or an issue. So, a single failure is generalized into the person or situation being hopeless. The person views it as a permanent flaw or failure. A single instance of rejection might make them feel they're permanently unlovable, and they might even associate hate with people possessing qualities similar to the one who rejected them.
- Basically, it intensifies negative thoughts or feelings of hate or worthlessness.
What are your thoughts on the same?
A depressed persons ego could enjoy having an excuse to be miserable. Because without the excuse, the idea that they arent happy could be too much to face.
