Any positive stories about taking anti-depressants?

Dizzard March 17th, 2016

I guess it might not be a great place to ask since people who've gotten a really positive effect from them probably wouldn't spend much time here....but I was wondering if anyone had some positive stories to share about taking anti-depressants?

I was at the doctors the other day for something completely unrelated. (I have a weird phlegmy situation going on in my throat and I'm constantly feeling the need to clear my throat as a result, the doctor said I must have some kind of irratation and he gave me a prescription for a nasal spray) I'm not sure if I've become a Hypchondriac. I mean I'm certain my throat problems aren't just in my head but I freaked out about so much beforehand, I thought I had a Thyroid Cancer. (for no reason other than the "wisdom" of the internet) I also think I had some anxieties about my adam's apple. Every once in a while I start thinking it's a tumor. I also ended up at the hospital for an x-ray a few months ago because I had weird pains in my chest....only for it to come back as nothing. It sounds pretty bad when I line them all up together like that...

and I must be like an open book because we then started talking about life, happiness and plans for the future. (well to be fair lately I've been feeling really off, so I wasn't really trying to hide it)

He suggested therapy and "something to make you feel better" and asked me if I wanted him to set it in motion for me. I wanted to say yes but I said maybe instead. :/ I told him I'd come back in two weeks to report on how well the nasal spray is working....so I guess he'll ask me about it again.

On one hand it sounds like something that could actually help (rather than endlessly reading silly self help articles online) but on the other hand you hear some scary stories about people talking medication. Anyone have anything to share about this?

My medication works pretty well. They're not ''happy pills'' though and they're not evil either. They just help.
As with most antidepressants, side effects are somewhat irritating. But these usually fade away once your body gets used to the medicine. I suggest asking your doctor to give you more information on what's available, the side effects and the amount of time it will take before they work (for me it took about 2 months).

@Cheeney I totally agree with this. And it can take a few tries to find something that works for you!

@anxietea Yes indeed, I don't think we're supposed to name medicines my their actual names, so when I started on antidepressants I took medicine C and it didn't work for me. When I switched to medicine F it had much better results.
