How do you find motivation or passion?

I just feel like I have no passions at all and no motivation to do anything, leading my life to feel so pointless...how do you find motivation or passion for anything? I have interests/"hobbies", but they generally make me feel worse than anything else (comparing myself to others, not feeling very good at it, not seeing a reason to do it, etc). I just feel like I have no idea what to do with my life, I've wasted so much time and it seems like everyone else has it figured out at least a bit. I don't feel like I fit in the world and I'm so empty

Hey, I understand that it might feel like you lack the passion or interest to have hobbies or the energy to pursue extracurricular activities. It might be hard at first but something that might help you or something that would be worth considering to try is experimenting with what your interests are for the sake of pure enjoyment. Earlier today, I read a quote that someone posted in a subforum: "Comparison is the death of joy." ~ Mark Twain

It's not easy to stop ourselves from inherent thoughts but it is definitely worth a shot. Try finding something that you can lose yourself in without giving a moment's notice to think about what you're doing. If you aren't interested in doing this, I do hope that someone else is able to respond in a way that can best help you! Motivation is always hard to find and it's different for everyone.

I wish the best for you and I hope that you were able to take something away from this! <3

@emily2803 it's very hard for me to find things that I don't somehow twist into being unenjoyable/a burden/a challenge... it feels like nothing comes easy to me, or that just only bring joy/relaxation without added stress. I know comparison is bad, it's just so hard not to... even when I stop using social media, I compare what I wanted in my own head to what I did in reality and it feels awful sometimes

I can understand where you're coming from because I've been there before too. Hitting a roadblock or an obstacle at any point is inevitable. I think the point is to keep trying even when it gets hard, which I'm sure you've been doing. It can feel too difficult at times in which case I encourage you to be kind to yourself and take self-care breaks. Be mindful of your own mental health while experimenting with things that you like and enjoy. I know that it can be hard to immediately change your perspective or outlook or to break away from challenging thoughts. You shouldn't expect that transition to occur right away, because growth takes time! Allow yourself to fail and grow from your mistakes. It can be discouraging but resilience is key. I believe in you.

I'm sorry, I'm just honestly answering the question. I'm just a fucking idiot who should be killed.

@tluper6491 just being mean to yourself isn't an apology, it's the opposite of that. You know you're not an idiot, you're just hurting. You don't have to be so self-deprecating, I'm just saying that hearing someone say negative things on my post where I'm clearly already feeling negative is just going to hurt more. You don't have to apologise for how you feel just...pick where you share it with a bit more thought?

I am an idiot or I wouldn't have posted it. You're right though. I am sorry for making things worse. I'll shut up now.

@tluper6491 you're very much not an idiot, people don't post things like that because they're stupid, they post them because they're in pain and venting can help sometimes. There's nothing stupid about feeling down, really. I hope something nice happens to you today, even if it's small
