Homicide and Suicide

The very recent school shooting in USA was so devastating, I decided to come back and help the 7 Cups community actively again. Mental illness was once again stigmatised and used as an excuse to cover up bad behaviours, attitudes and just seemingly evil pursuits. Evil people do exist, so do kind and lovely people and I don't know why being 'crazy' or 'something wrong in the head' allow people to be evil and straight up bad. I have known many people suffering from mental health issues from my previous work and definitely on this site, while some do stand out like a sore thumb with sinister and cruel intentions, many are just a victim of circumstances. Apart from just working to help mental health sufferers, I have always spent time to reduce the stigma related to mental health so more people come forward to seek help and not deny it. But it is sad, that still to this day, many are ignorant about mental health and how it can and cannot influence people and how difficult it is to cure or feel better from it. Reading comments about how sending such a obviously disturbed man with a bad attitude to a doctor to cure him is spoken out of folly and sheer ignorance. Some behaviours and attitudes cannot be linked to mental issues, I hope everyone keep that in their mind.

@adoredHug70 I feel the exact same way, when things like this happen, people automatically jump to "crazy" or "messed up in the head" or things similar...it just hurts to hear those things. Even if it ends up mental illness was a factor, treating it like this just adds to the misconception that people who are mentally ill are dangerous and should be feared, instead of treated with compassion and understanding. It hurts everyone when we equate horrible acts to just mental illness, and especially saying stigmatizing things like "crazy". The world needs to be kinder to mental illness...it always makes me sad when the first things we hear after a tragedy is how the person was "clearly mentally ill" :( it pushes the people who are struggling with mental illness away from getting help, because of the way it's treated in the media etc....

@TaranWanderer

Exactly, he may or may not have mental issues. And "mental issues" is a big umbrella term. Seeing Trump's speech on how he just keep emphasising that the violence is due to MENTAL HEALTH is not fair to all the sufferers and mental health victims. Thanks for the reply.

@adoredHug70 I think it ends up he did struggle with some mental health issues, but it's certainly not the only thing that was going on, and the way it's being talking about and often singled out as one of the main factors is just appalling. There was a lot in his background that led to this, but I keep seeing things like "we should have known, since he struggled with depression and self-harm" like??? those things do not make someone do horrible things like that, and it's terrible to make that link. I agree, it's not fair at all :(

@adoredHug70

thank you!!!

Alot of people sure, they do suffer from mental illness. But I grow hated to people who pull the card of mental illness at the slightest. Some people are just fucked up , that's it.

Again thank you for being the voice of reason.

@TinyPecker978 - One of the 7 Cups rules is that we cannot share personal contact information, so I have removed your phone number. If you aren't able to be online at specific times, you can still seek support here by posting in the forums or connecting with a listener and messaging online back and forth as you're able to make it on, rather than in a live conversation. And if you are feeling like you are in an emergency situation, please call an emergency services line in your area - a listener can help you identify one that might help. Take care
