Missing your family and loved ones is the worst :( If you can't work out a way to be home for the holidays, I suggest Skypingwith them or calling themand talk about how you feel and how much you miss them. I'm sorry, it must really hurt not to be able to be with them.

Holidays can be very hard for people with depression, especially when you?re separated from your family. It can be hard, but I?ve found that taking comfort in the people you do have around you, even if it?s just a friend or two, can be really helpful. Also, trying to stay in touch with your family like the previous poster recommended definitely helps. Also, I?m sure there are lots of people on this site willing to support you.

I do too. :) What helps a little is if I can take my feelings off of myself for a second, and focus on the needs of someone else. When my dog whines at me, and my initial thought is to ignore him bc I want to be sad about who I am missing, as quickly as I can, I change my thought to how can I make my dog feel better (he needed to go to the bathroom!). Whenever I am thinking about him, and his needs, I am not thinking about my own problems, and as a bonus I get to feel better about myself for helping him. A win-win. :) Take care.
