Has Anyone Here Felt Cured of Their Depression?

independentPlace3911 May 23rd, 2020

This is a serious question. I mean, I know we're all here for lots of reasons but I wonder if depression can really be cured. I just finished the book Feeling Good. It has been said that this book can cure depression. I also did the exercises.

I have been here on 7Cups for about one month now and I feel much better. I read the book, did the exercises, and I'm taking a medication. I realize that whether or not I am ever cured is ultimately up to me but I'm wondering if I should just settle in for the long haul. It seems like this could take forever. 😳

I think its about the journey not the cure that is really "healing" the ups and downs make and break you. The ups are your dreams, the downs are your nighmares. But the journey is getting through these swinging times. Its about just finding that balance where your gently swinging and not violently thrashing against the depths.

@ShadowTag

Trying very hard not to violently thrash. I just want to be normal! Thank you for sharing.

i suffer from depression myself and honestly it never really goes away that's why I find it best to just accept the fact that I'm not always going to feel good in life and that's ok! It's all about making the best with what you've been given and not letting other people around you to get you down because they don't know what you've been through and how far you've come. Don't worry about a thing your doing great! just keep going and never give up!

I see many saying something similar. That we have to learn to love ourselves and take care and such. I find that hard to do. It's good to have the support of others. I'm mostly alone during this pandemic, which makes it very difficult.

I've wondered that too. For me, it comes at times of feeling discouraged and/or weary. It's at those times that I need to remember to practice self compassion and allowing myself to be human. Somehow acceptiing the struggle frees me up a bit. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I want you to know you're not alone in the struggle. Sending peaceful thoughts your way..

This is what I was just saying. Self compassion is a must. I am trying to work on this. Thank you for sharing as well. This group is absolutely my lifeline.

Youre not alone in this being a lifeline ! Keep sharing and talking with safe people. If they're not safe, keep moving on. There are good people out there who will listen and care because they have compassion. It is an honor to be trusted with someone else's heartfelt thoughts and feelings....or at least in my humble opinion should be valued as such.
