Origami
Hello I’d like to share my passion of origami and connect with other folders around the world here on 7 cups. I’d like to inspire others to give origami a try! I recommend YouTube videos and finding books and learning from diagrams.
A little about my username:
If you were wondering what my wish was it was health related centered around my mental health journey back in 2017. Fun fact I folded 1000 cranes twice actually the second time being during quarantine 2020 for a friend who had jaw surgery. If you wondered how long it took me around 4 months to complete. I also used a kit where the paper came with it.
p.s. if you got this far in my post thank you and most importantly Have Fun Folding :)
@Cranes1000
Sooooo thoughtful and wholesome this is!💛
Imma fold paper into some butterflies soon hehe!
@Sunisshiningandsoareyou
Thank you for the kind words I appreciate it. I’m also very happy to hear about the butterflies because they are one of my favorite models to fold. I actually memorized how to fold Makoto-cho by Michael G. LaFose.
Another butterfly model I like folding is by Matthew Gardiner.
I’m curious which model you will find to fold because butterflies are very different and have different levels of complexity. I also would love to see the butterfly you chose to fold! I’d love to see pictures too or links to YouTube videos.
P.S. If you have read this far what’s your favorite color or rather do you like patterned paper vs solid colors? I’d love to discuss paper in another thread too! As always most importantly have fun folding :)
@Cranes1000 impressive, and I like patterns for the butterflies
@powerfulOak2587
Thank you Oak! Patterned paper is so pretty for butterflies that showcase on the wings having a big flat surface area. I like to fold animals so I’m drawn to solid colors at the moment. I think choosing the right paper for the right model is part of the folding process!
Here’s some visuals of my paper collection over the years (you can even see my change of blanket). I prefer folding from Kami paper which is a basic origami paper there’s handmade paper and making your own paper is a process of itself that I haven’t explored.
Here’s a visual of paper size ! 25cm to 15cm to 7.5cm these are pretty standard size kami paper. For more complex models paper sizes can be up to a meter which I also haven’t explored.
This is a photograph of Sandy Skoglund 1978 Yellow Box. I was really drawn to the patterned paper effect.
Here’s my interpretation of Sandy Skoglund I did for a Photography class I took.Green Crane 2020. And another interpretation I did using solid colors in a variation of pattern, color, and light and shadow.
Another thing about patterned paper effect using on modular origami called Kusudamas.
This just showcases how unity and repetition vs variety seen in one design of patterned paper vs multiple solid colored paper look.
Here’s another visual of color affecting modular origami.
This is BB-8 designed by Martin Hunt folded by me around 2018. Color is very important element of Art.
P.S. I will make another post about solid colors used in animals. Thank you for reading this far and most importantly have fun folding :)
