What was the last time an advertisement caught your attention?

The world is continually flooding us with advertisements on and offline. And, if you’re like me, this regular inflow of ads is nothing but an annoyance you learn to ignore.

You likely already had seen dozens of ads before you even left home today. There are ads on the websites, promoted posts on your social media; logos on pens, T-shirts,…; and, of course, that pile of junk mail in your e-mail box. Outside there is another wave: billboards, posters, brochures, bumper stickers and so on. Every day we may see thousands of advertisements, but, unfortunately for marketers, most of them are totally ineffective. We have simply learned to tune ads out.

With the race of attention, it is no longer enough for ads to be informative, but it should also make us feel.

What was the last time an advertisement caught your attention?

@AriadneLove

Nicely written and presented, Aria, thanks for this post! ❤

Soooo true hehe, advertisements of different kind keep flooding us. I remember recently coming across an advertisement of a food delivery app that made me chuckle lol, it was a cheeky way to say the delivery app misses me and hopes I can order something soon xD ofcourse I gave into that lol, it was sweet like "hey atleast someone misses me😛"! 😆

How about you?

Very well said, Aria! 👏 so true, we are flooded by news and marketing online and offline. Even your cereal box is trying to grab your attention.

It's rare to visit any platform that I am not attacked by ads. That's one more thing I appreciate 7 Cups. I haven't seen any ads on the site so far. Have you?

However creative ads are entertaining. Here are some creative ads that caught my attention:

They like to play with contrast, whether in size or bright/dark

Some attack their competitor in a playful manner.

Look forward to more samples and discussion about this topic 😊

@AriadneLove good question. The last time a commercial caught my attention was because it was SO AWFUL! How can a giant potato statue make you want to buy/use a product?!

There's another one about insurance that says "young people, good time, insurance!" It is soooo cheesy and bad! Cringy, but it got our attention.

It was this video ad for a delivery service, which I found on Youtube. 😮

The ad had a famous singer in my country. He sang one of his old songs with different lyrics. The lyrics were basically one line repeated for the whole video, but somehow that added to the appeal! It was nostalgic and hilarious at the same time.

It was insanely well-produced. The duration is long, but I watched the entire thing. The whole video was recorded backwards, by the way. It was also mind-boggling to see how good the acting of the singer was, despite only having one line to repeat over and over. 🤯 I appreciated the writing. Every scene was clever and funny; they thought about everything. So many cool little details!
